i was just on www.canada.com watching the superbowl commercials.
should i be embarrased?
it’s fairly ridiculous, je sais.
but if i say it’s b/c i’m a business student does that make it any better?
i figure, these 30second spots cost a WHOLE lot of money, so why not see what the companies did?
here’s my rating:
1star=stinky, 3stars=good
pepsi#1: the ‘anti-coke’ ad w/ Jackie Chan. *** i thought it clever. If you get passed the ridiculousness of what they were talking about.
pepsi#2: brown and bubbly. * tres stinky. i’m not a big fan of
P.Diddy. and anyways, how is do the words ‘brown and bubbly’ differentiate Diet Pepsi from its competition?! Coke has the same characteristics.
so does Root Beer,
and Dr.Pepper.
so does hot chocolate! (heh, atleast mine does… right after i pour the boiling water on the powder
Sierra Mist: ** it was alright. kinda comical…cuz u’d never think of airport security people doing that.
Burger King: * i thought it was stupid. and the meat looked disgusting. And anyways, it’s not like ‘burger customization’ is some kind of competitive advantage that Burger King has. you can do that anywhere. maybe the only reason they’re advertising that now is because other chains have advertised it as if it’s something new…so they figure they better chuck out some of the same kinda stuff just in case customers forgot that they customize burgers as well.
Mastercard: debit Mastercard. *** I thought this commercial was GREAT! classic Mastercard style that everyone makes fun of, but is still unique to them! And it didn’t really explain what the product is, leaving us intrigued!!
FedEx: * i wasn’t a big fan. i thought it was stupid.
all in all, i liked that some of the commericals weren’t ridiculously ‘big’, in terms of filming/production.
the Sierra Mist commerical was VERY simplistic which was something i liked about it.
The Burger King and FedEx commercials seemed really overdone, which was part of the reason i disliked them.
but hey, the point of advertising isn’t to get customer’s to like the commercial, now is it?
so perhaps they all won, b/c i actively sought out to watch their ads.
..meh, whatever.
- pepsi won’t get me to switch from Coke.
- i may try SierraMist if i’m tres thirsty and its on sale.
- Mastercard won me over, even though i was already on their side. i may go investigate this ‘debit mastercard’ a bit more.
- I like burger king even less and won’t be going there anytime soon.
- FedEx is still low on my list, b/c Purolator has the same services in my mind, and are cheaper.
okay. that’s enough procrastination. time to study.
