job stuff…again

March 30, 2006

I surfed onto a website today with a list of The 25 Most Difficult Questions You’ll be Asked on a Job Interview

I think they gave some pretty sound advice. It’s fairly lengthy though, so i’m only gonna list some of the questions here:

1. Tell me about yourself.
2. What do you know about our organization.
3. Why do you want to work for us?
4. What can you do for us that someone else can’t?
5. What do you find most attractive about this position? What seems least attractive about it?
6. Why should we hire you?
7. What do you look for in a job?

One of my ultimate favourite horrible interview questions was not mentioned on the site, that is, “what’s your worst quality?”
blech.
:-p

must. stop. watching. the. Oprah. dvd.

the thing with it is that it just keeps going on and on and on…
never staying on one topic or interview long enough for you to get bored with it.

so, i turn it to a particular interview that i want to see, but then when it is over another interview starts immediately after! and then another one and another one…

my roommie was home sick today and i sat down to watch it with her. i was fully intending on just watching for 30min or something like that. then all of a sudden we realize that an hour and a half have passed and it is now 6:15!

i had a meeting at 6:00!!

it wasn’t a HUGE deal or anything…just a few people getting together so it was okay if i missed it.
i didn’t WANT to miss it though, so i went outside to catch the bus, i ended up getting there around 6:50.

bummer.

“sorry i’m late! i was watching Oprah!”
:D

Get with the program!!

March 28, 2006

“Get with Oprah, get with the oooo. wanna get in the game? you know her name… OPRAH!!”

i picked up the Oprah dvd today!
i dunno where i’m gonna find time to study!
haha.

i’m back, i’m back!!

so, this past weekend felt like it lasted forever.
which is a good thing.

it was different being in the city with my parents (i’ve only ever gone there alone) b/c we ate out at restaurants and i didn’t have to think about the cost! ;)

i think the highlight of the trip was church on sunday.
My sis’s church is this HUGE majestic building.
TRES beautiful…
i took several pics, i’ll just post one though, cuz they don’t really do the building justice. i took the pics semi-incognito.

church

The pastor was really charistmatic as well.
and GREAT choir.
it was a great service overall.

so i was talking to my rents, and apparently my sis got a big graduation present!
i just thought she got something small, but apparently they got her a trip to Barbados.
My dad thinks i should go on a cruise for mine.
he was describing everything to me.
They have live theatre almost every night.
MUSICALS.
FREE MUSICALS people!!!
hah, i think that’s about all it took to get me excited about the idea.
1 problem: they’re not too keen on the idea of me going alone, and i don’t think i know anyone who is as ‘boring’ as i am.
for example, je deteste: beaches and heat. and i’m not going swimming.
so there knocks out 3 things that are characteristic with ‘fun things to do on a carribean cruise’.
*shrug*

i missed by train this afternoon.
it was at 3:45pm.
fortunately, i got a full refund, and the ticket lady told me that Greyhound has a bus to Toronto that leaves at 5:30.
(the next train was at 7pm)

it was really nice of her to tell me that, cuz Greyhound is their competition.
(i was planning on going to the bus station to check when their next bus was anyways…but it was still nice of her.)

so, i go to the bus station and they have a bus to Mississauga at 5:30.

it seemed like such a good deal! not only was i saving $20 on the ticket, but i was going to the city that i actually live in, instead of Oakville!
that means my parents would save on gas money when picking me up!!

so, i get on the bus at 5:30 thinking, ‘why don’t i do this more often?! it’s such a better deal!!!’

THREE HOURS LATER
i’m finally arriving in Mississauga, and i remember, ‘oh yes… it’s because the Bus stops in every town along the way!!!’
for crying outloud that was a long trip.

i dunno what i’m gonna do tomorrow for 8 hrs in the car.
my parents better be entertaining!!
:D lol.

ooo! maybe i’ll brings some crafts along with me like i used to do back in the day!

i should pick up knitting again! (’again’…i never really knew how to do it)
hmm… i’m gonna go rummage around my ‘craft drawer’ now and see if i have anything good.
:)

$15.50

March 23, 2006

that’s the amount that i got from Blockbuster for my 5 dvds.

it’s not much… but oh well… it’s something.

one funny thing is that it appears that Blockbuster doesn’t carry The Cosby Show dvd sets.
haha, so now i have a bunch of ‘credits’ with them for nothing! nothing!

they do have The Oprah Show…but it costs $50.

but anyways, in case anyone else is wondering, Blockbuster gives you about $1.50CAD for no-name dvds.

forward of the day

What happens when you ???

1) have nothing to do………

2) own a sharp knife………

3) have a large lime……….

4) own a patient cat……….

5) drink too much tequila………….

6) and it’s football season ?

Tequila Cat

today was a sucky day, in terms of the job searching thing, that is.
nothing actually happened, i just read an article from jobpostings magazine and got discouraged.
i went through the whole, ‘Forget finding a job! i’m gonna employ myself!’ thing again.

i need to give that up, cuz i’m pretty sure i’m not the ‘entrepreneur’ type.
interestingly enough, i learned in class a while ago that Canada has a higher than normal percentage of ‘entrepreneurial’ type of people. (by that i mean, risk takers, self starters etc)
why?
because we’re full of immigrants, and usually immigrants possess that entrepreneurial spirit! (after all, they are willing to uproot their whole lives and move to a new country!)
…i feel like i’ve mentioned this before…

come to think of it…

March 21, 2006

Tim Hortons hasn’t been around very long.
1964.
sure, that’s longer than i’ve been alive, but if you compare it to Labatt (1847), it’s nothing!!

so really, Labatt should be the one with billboards of their product that state, “true patriot love”.

hehe, now THAT would be something.

weeee!!

*rolls eyes*
i’m excited about a job posting i found online…again..

why do i do this to myself?
i need to learn to remain calm until AFTER i get the job.

oh well.

I have to write this long cover letter for it. they say the maximum is 500 words.
i’m hoping they expect mucho less than that.

i’m not complaining about it…. it’s a small price to pay for over 40something grand.
plus it’s a government job!

my roommie has been telling me things about her govt job that make the govt looks ‘less than desirable’…
i’m telling myself it’s just be her building though.
blops!!!!!!!!

could it be true?

http://www.tv.com/story/story.html&story_id=3475

i read something else online about a season with 12 episodes rather than 26 episodes.

!!!!

i’ve started watching a crime show with the guy from The Princess Bride on it.

everytime they show his face, no matter how serious he is, i always picture him saying:

“my name is Inigo Montoya. you killed my father. prepare to die.”

i love that movie. :)

question

March 20, 2006

has anyone ever sold dvds to Blockbuster?
i have a bunch of weird dvds that i bought earlier in the year, and since i don’t feel like owning them anymore, i’m gonna go trade them in..somewhere.

i’m trying to decide whether to go to an ‘independent’ store, or go to Blockbuster.

the only real reason i’m doing this is because i want to buy the Cosby Show dvd set that is coming out tomorrow (woohoo!!:D), but i don’t really have the money for it… :(

so in that sense, Blockbuster would be the best bet, b/c i wouldn’t need cash, just store credit. And blockbuster would have it in stock…I’m expecting the set to be around $30.

but:
since i watch Oprah all the time, i’d enjoy her dvd set too… and since its been out for a while now, the indie places probably have used copies of it, so i could trade my stuff in there too.

i just wanna get the most money for my silly dvds.

I was reading someone’s blog and she said she gets $5 for her dvds from Blockbuster.
but that’s in the States.
and i’m pretty sure that the dvds i have are the absolute bottom of the barrel.

hah, the movie ends and you think, i just spent 2 hrs of my life watching this thing and i dont even know what happened!

any opinions would be mucho appreciated. :)

poor kid

in class today the prof asked a practically rhetorical question about what GATT (General Agreement on Tarrifs and Trade) was a precursor to.

some kid put up his hand to answer and said, “NAFTA”.

it was so sad.
i was so embarrased for the guy.

i mean, without thinking about it, i knew it was the WTO…

i suppose i could see how he made that mistake… i mean NAFTA is about trade

so, i realized that apparently i’m learning stuff in school…
i just assumed that all that knowledge goes in one ear, stays until the exam, and then leaves out the other ear.
apparently some of it is sticking! :)
…even if it is semi-worthless info about the Uruguay Round.
