“It’s getting hot in here!”

July 31, 2006

(that was the ‘phrase of the day’ at work today.)

fun time bowling yesterday!
i’m actually not a fan of bowling, but i had a great time last night. (at 9pm! on a sunday night! ….i was so tired this morning.)
i guess it all depends on who you’re with.
something interesting about the bowling alley: on the tvs they played music videos. i dunno if that’s a recent thing, or if they’ve been doing that for a while, but i thought it was a GREAT idea!
i mean, with music vids, you can watch them without getting too interested and then not wanting to bowl.
my one recommendation: no more Rod Stewart videos. please. no.

so this morning i get to work and as i pass through the ’secure’ doors into the office i’m hit with a “wave” of hot air. (it wan’t really ‘wave’ there was no air circulation… cuz the windows don’t open.)
so within a few seconds i’m uncomfortable.
the whole day was fairly comical.
there was some problem with the building and city bylaws or something, re: the temperture of office buildings.
so they had shut off the a/c… or something like that. i think they had only given it to certain floors or somthing.
anyways, today was month end and that’s when everyone in the department has to get all their work done before the end of the day.
and then today they received TONS more work then they were expecting, so everyone was stressed and hot and sweaty.
it was great.
u know those situations where it’s so bad that it’s just funny? :)
i think i was the only person inwardly laughing though, b/c i wasn’t stressed at all. i can attribute that to the fact that i don’t do anything “important”. so even though everyone starts work an hour before me, i ended up leaving the office before they did.

everyone looked so funny too. people walking around in their barefeet.. one girl was wearing wool pants (b/c it’s usually supercold in the office so we wear winter clothes) so she rolled them up.
haha, talk about “business casual”.
i wouldve taken a picture of everyone … but i don’t think they would’ve appreciated that.

the fun part was that the manager went out and bought us all icecream/popsicles.
and there were ice cold beverages available all day. i remember walking by the recycling bins full of ice and pop and seeing one of the cop-op students dunking his hands in the bin and cooling off.

heh, such a classic day.

Remember When it Rained?

July 30, 2006

ooo two entries with the title about rain! :D

so anyone else have those moments where you think you know something, but you’re not quite sure?
i’ll explain myself.

There’s only one song by Josh Groban that i ABSOLUTELY love. it’s called “Remember when it Rained”
and the past couple days i kept thinking, ‘i wonder if Josh Groban wrote that song..’
i assume that he doesn’t write the majority of his songs b/c some are in a different language.

so i just checked the cd booklet and lo and behold he did write the lyrics for that song! and co-wrote the music!
yayyy

if i’m not mistaken, it’s the only song on the album that he wrote the lyrics for.
that’s exciting b/c it means that as he writes more and more of his own songs, he’ll be making albums that i realllly like! :D

so i feel like i already knew that he wrote the song… otherwise, why would i have even thought about checking to see if he wrote it?

ok time to go bowling.

blame it on the rain, cuz the rain don’t care

another bbq yesterday!
it was an “interesting” evening.
on the one hand, it was HORRIBLY awkward. u know, sometimes i embrace my ‘awkwardness’ like, that’s the way i am, so i just deal with it.
but then there are those times when it’s sooo painfully awkward that i get upset with myself.
such as last night.

not all of it was bad though.

i went to a ‘congrats on graduation’ bbq for one of my friends from school.
it was definitely a time when it’d be good to have a boyfriend to drag along.
i spent a ‘lot’ of time just sitting on my own, and observing. (there was a dog, and dogs are fun to watch)
but then ppl see me sitting alone and think that i must be lonely, so they come and small talk.
and after a certain point of talking to people you have nothing in common with, it gets paaaaainful.
i’m talking “so what are your hobbies?” kinda painful.

but aside from the awkwardness it was good.
the bonus was that they were french!
so there were some french conversations!
i noticed that i can usually understand what people are saying but i have to concentrate extra hard.
ooo and one of the guys there reminded me of a guy who was in The Peg…. same bone structure… different eye/hair colour combination though. ;)

on a different note, BestBuy has a sale on the Friends DVD series.
$20 for one season.
that’s like a ridiculous price to me, so i bought seasons 2 and 5.
i kinda want the ones where M and C first get together (season 4 i think) and then the one where they get married (season 6?)
so perhaps i’ll get them while they’re so cheap.

ooo so i saw Evelyn on Friday.
that’s the movie with Pierce B. a.k.a James Bond.
i thought it was pretty good.
there were a few randomly odd parts though.
like when the love interest shows up at the guys house unannounced in the rain (and they barely knew eachother) and she comes in and comments on how dirty his house is, and he says that he needs a housekeeper.
and later we find out that, that was his way of asking her to move in with him.
…talk about messed up.
but perhaps that’s the way they did stuff back in the day?
anyways, i put the movie in the ‘go rent it if you want to’ category.

i’ve become so numb

July 27, 2006

they’ve gotta stop putting good songs on commercials for movies.

regardless of how messed up the movie is, the song makes me want to go see the movie.

Like “Lake House” with Bullock and Reves… talked about a messed up storyline!
heh, for the longest time i didn’t know why i was ‘attracted’ to the movie! it’s cuz they played a song by “Somewhere only we Know” by Keane in the commercial!

and then today at work i was talking to someone about the movie Miami Vice. i told her that i had no desire to see that movie.
then today during So You Think You Can Dance, a commercial came on with the song Numb/Encore by Linkin Park and Jay-Z playing in the background. I was like, ‘ooo! i should go see that movie! … wait a second…”

they did it again with the movie Stranger than Fiction. they started out the trailer with the song ‘That’s the way we get by’ by Spoon. I LOOVE THAT SONG! there’s clapping in it! how could u not love it? :D
that movie, by the way, looks ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!
the cast is great. the trailer has all these fun spots. “I HATE YOU TAX MAN!! BOOOOO”
or him running in his business suit with an apple in his mouth.
classic! just classic!
i’m SO excited about seeing that movie.
it’s #2 on my ‘to definitely go see in the theatre’ list.
number one is Snakes on a Plane. WOOHOOOO :D

it doesn’t cost a thing to smile, you don’t have to pay to laugh

July 26, 2006

simple pleasures.

This morning i was walking from the bus stop to my office building and noticed something.

A MAN TIED TO A ROPE, HANGING FROM THE TOP OF THE 9-STORY BUILDING!

I WAS SHOCKED AND APPALLED!

so of course i took out my camera and snapped a few pics.

i should explain… he was washing the windows.
window washer guy

(yes, i know, the office building is prettty :) )

so, seriously, WHO DOES THAT!
i mean, he’s literally hanging from a rope.
he doesn’t even have one of those ‘platform’ thingys.
he’s just hanging off the side of the building, with a squeegee in one hand and a bucket of soapy water…. somewhere….

i’ve never seen anyone do that in real life before.
i’ve seen the guys with the platform things… but not someone just hanging from a rope!

anyways, so after the pics i walked towards the building and the timing was SO perfect! the washer dude was directly above the side entrance into the building and he was dripping water and stuff.
so i ran into the building and made it in without getting wet!
woohoo. :D

so next i get up to my ‘desk’ and i’m all excited, “A guy’s washing the windows outside!!!”
co-workers: “oh yeah…he does that every so often.”

HOW ARE THEY NOT EXCITED?!!

hah, and then the best part, a few minutes later i just so happen to be seated at my ‘desk’ doing work and the window guy just so happens to be washing the window next to me!
so i snapped another pic, incognito.
window guy 2
that’s his elbow.
(hah, you know it’s a bad pic when you have to explain what it’s a picture of!)

so that made my day.
when i came home i told my family all about it.
they were only a bit more excited than my co-workers were.

so speaking of the office…a few weeks ago i snapped this pic of one of the emergency doors:

hehe, Tornado shelter.
i should go investigate one of these days.
i’m picturing a bomb shelter type area… like a hole in the ground…

a couple quotes from House last night.
(GREAT show by the way… great writing!)

- “if you’re not prepared to look stupid, nothing good is ever going to happen.”

- “the key to a long life: exotic woman, boring cheese.”
haha

girl you know its true!

July 25, 2006

funny conversation at work today.
the office is arranged in like open concept cubicles and in the nearby (semi-joined) department there’s this guy (”guy 1″0) who talks really loudly.

so he comes in from his lunch break and sits down: “STUPID TIM HORTONS!”
guy 2: “what?”
guy 1: “They smushed my Boston Cream Doughnut!”
guy 2: “I love when they do that.’
woman 1: “Smushed?”
guy 2: “yeah. MWA HA HA HA HA!” (in a Count Dracula style laugh…. it’s like this running inside joke they have.”

i usually pretend that i’m not listening in on their conversations, but that one made me chuckle. if i knew them, i would’ve ‘full out’ laughed.

i love their conversations sometimes cuz they’re so classically canadian. they totally follow all the rules i made up for the proper use of the word ‘eh’.
it’s great.

and apparently ’smush’ is not a word!! i looked it up on dictionary.com. heh, who knew?!

so anyways, my partner-in-crime asked me today if i was sick of her. apparently she had told her boyfriend, “i think Cat is getting sick of me.”
awwww
apparently i’m a horrible person.
i’m not sick of her anymore though!
i say… it was just a bad week.

we had cake again today! :) someone was ‘fired’. (she was working on contract with them for 3 years and they decided not to renew her contract this time.)
so we had cake to wish her well.
that cake must’ve tasted horrible to her!
we had cake last thursday when someone moved out East.
and then there was the bbq on Friday.
and this coming Sunday there’s a ‘Family BBQ’ which i have no intentions on going to.
but man… this company sure does love bbqs….

gone going gone, everything gone

July 24, 2006

i went for a walk last night with my mom and we passed by this huge ‘commotion’.
apparently there had been a big fire in a townhouse.
we couldn’t smell anything though… so it was a bit odd that the cops had blocked off part of the street and there were 11 fire trucks (i’m not exaggerating, we counted!) and lots of emergency fire vans… and random cop-type vehicles around.

i said it was drug related.

and i was right!
(much to my surprise :) )

it was the first thing on the news last night! a fire in a drug house!
they said hazmat would be there all night. (and they’re still there right now! 24hrs later)

funny, i was thinking, wow… that’s like the closest i’ve ever been to a drug house…
cuz you hear about them on the tv and everything…. but it’s rarely in your own ‘close to your neighbourhood’ area!

and then i was like, wait a second!! i lived in a drug house 4 months after it was used to grow illegal drugs!
i guess i’d forgotten about that whole ‘ghetto house’ university phase….

hah. those were the days.
it’s surprising i didn’t get sick from sleeping in the room that had once housed drugs….

oh dear… and now all the memories of the horrible insects come rushing back to me….
ugh.

these words are all i have so i’ll write them

July 23, 2006

my song/music of the week is tie between Fall Out Boy’s “Dance, Dance” and a few songs from Reliant K’s new album. “who i am hates who i’ve been”
heh, i just listen to them over and over again.

so today was funny.
i woke up extra extra late (actually it was pretty bad… like i was laying down for such a long time that my back hurt…. you could just blame my mattress, but it’s new-ish (like 6 months))

anyways, i went to a bbq!
first one of the summer!
i’m going to another next week. hopefully it’ll be as random as today’s.
top 2 moments:
- watching bootleg dvds.
i betcha this is a scenerio the film industry hasn’t thought of: the copy of Pirates of the Caribbean was SO bad that we had no idea what was going on for like 9/10 of the movie, and this made us all want to go watch the movie in the theatre (not wait to rent it) so that we can understand it. lol, we saw enough of the film to make us think, if we could actually see and hear the movie properly, this could be fairly exciting!
so i’m gonna go see that sometime ’soon’. hopefully by the time i go see it, it won’t be sold out!
(oo, by the way, i went and saw MI:3 in theatres again last week. and i loved it this time! yay for that!!)

- playing badminton outside for (atleast) and hour and a half…. basically until it was dark and we couldn’t see the birdie anymore.
the funniest was that we kept getting the birdie stuck in this huge tree. one time it was soo far up the tree that we couldn’t reach it with the broom so one of the guys javelin throws the broom into the tree to knock the birdie down.
the result: both the broom and the birdie get stuck high up into the tree.
it was absolutely hilarious. i wish i took a picture.

anyways, we managed to get the broom down and a while later (with the use of a ladder) we got the birdie down too.

now onto a totally different subject…
anyone else notice how like almost EVERY Friends episode starts with someone saying, “hey” ?
