sweet kiwi

May 31, 2007

Maroon 5 has a song on their new cd named “Kiwi”.
it’s exciting!
well, i’m not a huge fan of the lyrics. but it’s exciting that a kiwi song exists! :)
i don’t really eat kiwis, (re: this old post) but i love them anyways… i think it’s the name that i love. …and the green-ness.

anyways, my dad finally bought a new lawnmower.
i feel like we should have a celebration or something.
i’ve been pushing to get rid of that thing for years.
he keeps taking it in to get repaired. …every year.
i think it was some nostalgic thing.
he’s had it since 1979.
that’s before any of us kids were born.

i learned today that lawnmowers are sold in big boxes!
i had just assumed that when you buy them you roll them out of the store! like suitcases!
…kinda…

i had a fun time on my walk to the post office this afternoon.

took some pictures of “weeds”:

and look what i saw when i was passing the farm!!

that’s right! a SNAKE!!

right after i took that pic, he got scared of me and darted through the ‘fence’.

and then i got home, i saw that my mom had bought my favourite flowers!!

so it was a fun day.
obviously.
any day involving snakes is fun. :D

“i name Sunday after you…”

email forwards are annoying.
sometime in April i realized that i am on the ‘email forward lists’ of my previous co-workers.
i couldn’t believe it when i started getting these long forwards!!
seriously!
well, i’ve blacklisted one person so far. …all her emails to me go straight to a special folder.
the “Trash” folder.

anyways,
i finished reading ‘Blink’ by Malcolm Gladwell… it wasn’t bad.
it’s up for borrowing, if anyone is interested.
in the book he mentions a musician by the name of ‘Kenna’.
i’m listening to one of his songs now, ‘Sunday After You’, and i like it.
i think this is going to be a summer of dance-y music!!

my plan for today was to apply for jobs and jump head first into my job hunting adventure.
it didn’t quite work out as planned though.
i ended up making cards all day.
and pulling out my hair.
literally.
i took out my braids :D
so maybe i’ll do the job stuff tomorrow.

has anyone seen the Nicoderm commercial on tv with the flight attendant?
it absolutely cracks me up everytime.
if i was quitting smoking, i’d totally use Nicoderm. (hah!)
anyways, this commercial i found below isn’t the same one that i’ve seen on tv, but it’s still funny.

i love the “the seatbelt sign is ON!”
hah, people always get up when it’s on. :)

“just another one of those glory days”

May 28, 2007

alrighty, so i’ve been up to a few things since i last wrote.
for one, i went to my friends wedding last Saturday!!
one word: lovely.
i could talk a whole lot more about it…but i won’t…

i had a fun crafty-afternoon with Manz last week.
here’s some of our mess:

(see that box in the middle with the circles on it? …that’s full of my finished cards and envelopes. the box is overflowing! …so that’s why i’m giving away the cards!)

and then sometime recently i was in the car with my bro and he was driving (which rarely happens… i always drive…) and we passed by this woman:

yup. she’s vacumming her lawn.
i just HAD to take a picture of her.
…i hope that’s not mean of me…

and i have been making cards as usual… just not taking pics of them.
i took pics of today’s batch though.
…back to the dots.
i actually like them a whole lot.

…and this random one:

so i think i’m going to start looking for a job sometime soon. hopefully.
it’s kinda unfortunate that i’m enjoying unemployment so much.

i want to go to Las Vegas.

May 24, 2007

i just thought i’d throw that out there. :D

an enveloping day.

“trace, cut, cut, fold, glue”
that was my day today.
making envelopes from Old Navy paper…
and then i went outside and sat down in the grass a took pics of them! :)

…and of a few other things…

like my new bag that i mentioned yesterday:

and weeds!

ooo and i made 2 Pages yesterday! one for Venice and the other for Croatia! i’m so proud of myself, they’re not ridiculously long!!!

so my back is killing me and i’m not sure why.
it sometimes hurt on the cruise when we were walking for hours and hours…but now it’s hurting a lot more than that.
….maybe i should stop sleeping on my stomach…

anyways, it was a productive day.
…depending on how you define ‘productive’ of course…

a few random things

May 23, 2007

lately…
i’ve been listening to Just Jack. particularly “Starz in their eyes” and “Glory Days”
i’m intrigued by musicians with accents that can be heard while they’re singing… like Just Jack. …Lily Allen is another one. …not quite sure if i’m a fan of her’s though. …though, that ’smile’ song is kinda funny.

also been listening to Gym Class Heroes. particularly “Cupid’s Chokehold” and “Mash Up” featuring Fall Out Boy. my version of that song is a little ‘off’…i’m not sure if its supposed to be that way or not…
and my name is mentioned in the song!! i was very excited when i heard it! (….regardless of the fact that it’s less than flattering..) my name is never in songs!!
‘Remember Catherine,
Talked so much I used to make her bring me aspirin.
Blah blah blah, I’m doing fine thanks for asking.
I even tried to make a muzzle but her mouth just would not quit.’

ouch!

so i’ve been doing some purposeful shopping these past couple days.
my friend’s wedding is on Saturday!!!
the question of what i would wear was nagging in the back of my mind for the past weeks.
on the one hand, i passionately hate dressing up.
but on the other hand, i don’t want be disgracefully (albeit comfortably) dressed-down at her wedding.
so i found an ‘outfit’ yesterday. and some shoes today.
i went to Square One to look for a bag, but didn’t find one.
i randomly went into Urban Behaviour, did a quick walk through and as i was leaving though, i glanced around and in the corner of my eye i saw this great brown/orange/cream patterned bag.
it’s not at all what i was looking for, but i turned right around, gave it a quick up-close look over and bought it.
perhaps i’ll post a pic of it tomorrow when the sun is out.

so my handmade card collection is quickly getting out of hand.
anyone want some cards? :) pleeease?!!

on the job front… my job search isn’t going too well.
and by that i mean, i’m not doing it.
haha. i don’t feel like working yet.
…maybe i’ll look next week. :D

alright, now i’m gonna go back to naming my pics from the trip!

another evening in music department

May 22, 2007

so okay, i’ll admit it: i have some issues with cds.
i should stop buying them.
or at least, stop buying so many of them.

ooo it’d be interesting to give that up for like a couple months.
…i’ll think about it…

this evening i went a little overboard at Bestbuy…

the loot:
Linkin Park’s new album. - i liked their previous album, but i didn’t buy it, so i figured i’d give this one the benefit of the doubt, even though i haven’t heard any of the songs yet.

Maroon 5’s new album. - i’ve only heard mini snipets of their first single…but i figure that i’ll probably like the cd as long as it doesn’t have crazy screaming like their live album.

‘Heavier Things’ by John Mayer - i’m not a huge fan of the singles on this album, but there’s a random song on it that i like.

a 2004 album by Five For Fighting. - i didn’t have any of their albums yet… and i thought, ‘there’s no time like the present!’

“Messin’ Around” by Molly Johnson - complete impulse buy. it was on sale and the cover was bright with Johnson laughing on it… i listened to part of the title song and it’s alright. …i don’t usually listen to people with the kind of voice as Johnson’s but she can sing, and the music/band is good…so perhaps i’ll like the album.

“Within” by William Joseph - another impulse buy. the cover of this album has Joseph sitting at a grand piano.pianos are great, so i figured the cd might be too!
turns out it’s totally instrumental music! (well, so far it is)
i can picture the songs being played during dramatic movie montages. :D

and that’s it.

i’m back!

wow… i have a LOT to say.
i’m just going to be general in this short entry about the cruise b/c i’ll be talking about each country in more specifics later on.
(i’ll be uploading those posts as “Pages”, so they’ll only show up as links over in the right hand column under the title ‘Pages’. right now there are only 2 ‘Note to Self’ entries there.)

so the cruise was great.
i highly recommend it.

a day or two before we left Canada i realized that i was seriously unprepared for the trip.
for one, i didn’t know anything about the flight itinerary… i wasn’t sure where we were going… i didn’t know the exact date we’d be back in Canada…. i didn’t have any foreign cash…
but it all worked out.
plus it was nice to not have to worry/care about all the details.
all i had to do was have my passport and my parents handled everything else!

the cruise went from Venice, Italy; to Split, Croatia; Corfu, Greece; Katakalon, Greece; Santorini, Greece; Naples, Italy; and finally to Rome, Italy.
we stayed overnight in Venice and at the end we hung around Rome for a couple days.
Venice is definitely my favourite place out of them all.
i knew it would be though!

how could u NOT love all that WATER!!!

besides that though, i love the winding pathways and cute alleys that go in all kinds of directions…and the stores were ‘my kind of stores’…. small shoppes selling random things… we didn’t go into any (boo!!!) but that’s okay, cuz i’ll go into them next time.

the ship itself was interesting.
though it wasn’t exactly what i was expecting…
it’s like a ‘make your own entertainment’ kind of atmosphere.
what i mean by that is, there are lots of options of things that you can do… ex, Art Auction, Bingo, Casino, (hehe alphabetical order!) live shows, swim, pingpong, gym, etc.
so if you’re bored, you know it’s your own fault.
as much as i was looking forward to the free musicals (hah! i was SO excited about that!) i didn’t actually watch any in their entirety.
they were not the kind of musicals i envisioned.
i was thinking of like West Side Story or something…
but all the entertainment they had was more corny ‘belt out the song at the top of your lungs’ kind of performances.

the free food was good, but i wasn’t a fan of a few things…
like the main restaurant was a real upscale place and they scheduled ‘formal nights’ for two of the nights, so everyone had to dress up.
i suppose that’s probably fun for some people, but it’s not for me…so i ended up skipping those nights and eating at the buffet place instead. only problem is the buffet food was significantly lower in quality.

and they had a couple ‘food events’ where they’d put on an ice sculpting show (or something) and have this extravagant gourmet food/dessert buffet….at MIDNIGHT!
my parents ended up going to them, but my sis and i skipped them both. i mean, why would we eat at midnight?!
i think the company planned the events at midnight so that they didn’t have to make as much of the special food, cuz they knew a lot of people wouldn’t eat all that food so late at night.

ooo i had my first martini on the cruise!
i think it was my first night there. i ordered an Appletini as a salute to Scrubs. hah.

speaking of tv, i HAVE to mention the flight home.
on the 8hr flight from Germany to ‘Sauga we had this new AirCanada plane with mini touchscreens behind everyone’s seat.
so we could watch whatever movies, tv shows we wanted.
i couldn’t help myself. it was like 8 continuous hours of watching tv.
i watched Children of Men, which was pretty interesting. …not as freaky as the previews look. and i watched an old Cdn movie about a gambler ‘Mahoney’ or something. the main character was played by Philip Seymour Hoffman. so that was interesting too.
and then there were the tv shows. they had Arrested Development!!!!, and even better: la job!!! The French Canadian version of The Office!!!
it was so good! they had the first episode from the first season, which is basically the same in all the versions, so i knew what was going on, even though it was in french!!
i was so impressed with air canada during that flight.

i’m not quite sure what else i want to say about the cruise in this post. …if i forgot something i’ll probably mention it in the Pages.

later gators!

May 10, 2007

so, i’m off to the Mediterranean…. there will be internet access on the boat, but i doubt that i’ll use it.

so i won’t be posting for a week or so.
have a good week people!
:D

billiards & bowling

May 9, 2007

yesterday was fun.
apparently bowling is a popular thing to do on Tuesday nights! the place was full when we got there!
who knew!?!

so we went to the pool place next door for an hour.

then the left-handed bowling began:

and here’s a couple random pics i just took outside:
the tulip one kinda freaks me out:

purolator just delivered my cellphone! yayyyy
