guacamole

September 30, 2007

(flowers from a wedding my parents went to.)

I like that word “guacamole”.
Maybe I’ll start using it like “Serenity Now!”/ “Hoochie Mama!” (….I just watched that Seinfeld episode :)
“GUACAMOLE!!”

So this weekend was all cards!
…basically.
Saturday was cards…all day, and Sunday was sleeping all day.
I’m still sleepy actually.

It’s great to have something to do when you don’t feel like doing anything. …knitting is probably like that too. :)

Here’s the outcome:

a couple days ago I made this Thank You card:

and showed it to my mom, and she went, “Th…Thankthin…Thankan…Yu…Youks…”
lol, I totally didn’t see that!
but i think it’s funny.

On Saturday I started making my own snowflake, and ended up making a star design instead.
I like it though. :)

mmm yummy!

I smell good.
I used a new shampoo this morning. “Nourishing Oasis: Lavender and Chamomile”
:)

My cards are on the Etsy Greetings site.
what fun!

6 things

September 28, 2007

I was tagged by Lauren from Banana Head Pancakes! Go visit her blog! She’s fun!
[She has an Adbusters link on her site. Has anyone seen their magazine lately? I look for it every time I go to Chapters, but I never see it. What’s the deal?]

Anyways, here’s my “Six random things about me” list:

1. My only broken bone (so far) was my left arm (my elbow pit!) which I broke while running for a tricycle. — I was in kindergarten! :) — But I did sprain my ankle more recently. It was during my awkward teenager years. I was at a house party and decided not to tell anyone about it (why bring attention to myself?), so instead I spent the night sitting in the same spot, cautiously flexing the muscle so that it wouldn’t hurt too much when I eventually had to stand up. hah.

2. When I was in middle school I stopped listening to ’secular’ music because I decided it was having a bad effect on me. I listen to all kinds of ‘bad influence’ music now though, heh :)

3. I say ‘hi’ to people a lot. …perhaps it’s annoying. Example, if I’m in the kitchen and a family member comes in to get something, I’ll say ‘hi’. If I go to a different room and two hours later, that same person walks by the room, I might say ‘hi’ again. lol. I definitely see how this could be severely annoying, but my family seems to take it in stride. They’ve never told me to quit it… and they only reply when they want to.

4. I reallllly liked the Scrubs musical episode. I downloaded the songs and listen to them all the time. (like right now actually! “We’re gonna miss you Carla…”)

[I’m really bad at making lists like this past #4.]

5. I’m not a socks person. I’d rather have freeezing feet than wear socks in my own house.

6. I used to sell ice cream on one of those bicycles. The ones that have a big compartment where all the ice cream is held. I was really bad at it actually. I had the job for about 3 days. I can’t remember how old I was… 16 maybe. My first day on the job I spent half the time riding up and down the same street, trying to figure out where I was. (I had (have?) a really bad sense of direction.) The second day, was Canada Day, and I was stationed at city hall, so I literally stayed at the same corner and people flocked to me. I made $100 that day, or some large amount…
The third day I crashed the bicycle and spent a few hours eating my inventory and waiting for my employers to come pick me up. And that was the end of that. lol.

Alright, so now I should tag six people…but I really don’t know who wants to do this…so I’ll just say, if you’re reading this, and you want to post your own ’six things’ list, consider yourself tagged!!

why doesn’t anyone want my blood?

I went to give blood yesterday.
I went through the motions of getting my blood pressure and my blood lead level checked… and then they told me that Guyana is on the malaria watch list, so I can’t give blood until I’m home for year.
It used to be 6 months… but oh well.
I hung around the mall for a few hours and waited for someone to pick me up :)

And I took pictures of signs:

I read on TwoRabbitShow’s blog that at the B.C-Washington border crossing there are newspaper and hotdog vendors who work in between the lanes! I think that’s FANTASTIC!
…I wish we had that over here. that’d be great….

on another very random note, I got another Treasury on Etsy! I feel like I’ve had a lot. …maybe 5 so far. This is one of my favourites b/c of the colours.

you will be the death of me Spider Solitaire!

September 26, 2007

One day in August when my sis was home, she randomly told me that she had just won the “Difficult: Four Suits” level of Spider Solitaire.

I was shocked.

I am stilled shocked.

Even more shocking, she said it was only her third time doing so.

HER THIRD TIME!!!

Alright, this whole time, I thought the Difficult level was actually the Impossible Level.
I just assumed that it was there to taunt you.
…you know, like how the best video games are the ones that you can’t actually win. This
way you will always play it.

well, since my sister nonchalantly told me about her win(s), I’ve been playing Spider Solitaire all the time.
I mean, if my sis can do it, I should be able to do it too.

It’s been a month so far, and I still suck at it.
like really suck.

to my defense though, I play it while I’m doing other things like watching tv, or talking on the phone.

I’m still perplexed by the fact that the level can be beat!!

…a few years ago I realized that I take these computer card games a little too seriously:

When I was working as a Residence Clerk my shift ended, and someone came in to relieve me, and I told her that I couldn’t pack up my laptop yet, because I was in the middle of a game of Free Cell, and they track your win/loss stats, and I didn’t want mine to go down.
I continued by telling her that this is the added factor to Free Cell, the fact that with every game you know that your score is being recorded as well as win/loss streaks.

She replied, “wow, you really don’t have any real stress in your life do you?”

so since then I’ve tried to calm down with my computer card games.
…until this latest thing with Spider Solitaire.

you’re going down Spider Solitaire. you’re going down.

“if you are chilly, here take my sweater…”

September 25, 2007

Last night I “sucked it up” and set up an interview with a temp agency.
Or I should say that today I sucked it up and went to the interview.

It went well.

During the interview the person was like, “you know.. I have a position on my desk that you would qualify for….”
So I filled out an application for that and did various tests.
Hopefully I’ll get the position and start soon!

…it’d be nice to have money again.
yay!
it’s with a big financial company, so that could be cool.

I feel like as soon as I sign a contract for a ’sub par’ job, one of the cool jobs I applied for during the summer will contact me for an interview.
But I suppose I can’t wait forever.
sigh.

And, a super cool friend sent me info about a craft fair in November! I don’t know if I’ll participate, but it sure is interesting to think of!
my mom thinks I should go for it. …and it’d be fun to work towards building a huge inventory for it.
piles and piles of cards!!!
And lots of Christmas cards!!
:D

Anyways, I need to provide the job people with a copy of my high school diploma, so I should go and try to find that.
Seriously though, if I give them a copy of my uni degree, shouldn’t they just assume that I have a high school diploma?
ugh.
searching…

drinking veggie juice

September 24, 2007

I’m not up to much these days.

This veggie ‘cocktail’ isn’t half bad! I’m surprised!!

Anyways, I’m trying to decide which Christmas cards to make.
well, I made 4 so far:

I’m not sure how I feel about them.
The beads take me forever. So finicky!

The Cdn Blood Services people called me again, and I kind of “laid down the law” to them.
1. I don’t live in London anymore, so I don’t care that they’re collecting blood in Medway Hall.
2. I don’t want to make an appointment. ever.
The lady was nice about it though.
well, she wasn’t quite clear on the second point, she told me to call them when I want to schedule an appointment.
hmm, maybe they don’t take walk-ins anymore.
..we’ll see. maybe I’ll drop by tomorrow.

during my last trip there, I stopped by the highway overpass and took some pictures.
why?
I dunno.

a documentary and a movie

September 23, 2007

wow. intense tv watching tonight! –thanks tvo.

I wasn’t even expecting it.

neither are for fun, light hearted night time watching, but they’re really good.

first, I caught “A World Without Water“.
which I’d recommend everyone to see, of course. The Corporation had a segment on the privatization of water, so it was good to see the issue in more depth.
They said a stat that it takes 10 bathtubs of water to grow a single bowl of lettuce.
(Which begs the question, “how big is the bowl?”. I assume it’s a ‘group size’ bowl though. :)

then, there was “Born Equal“, which I would recommend as well. Though, it is really intense. Colin Firth and David Oyelowo are in it too. Great acting all around actually.

Thing I like: The end of summer

“ding dong the witch is dead!!” summer is over for another year!!

I’m so excited about the upcoming, cold, ’sweater required, jacket optional’ weather!

A few other things I like:

- tomato-sauce-making-season for my neighbors. Every year my Italian-born neighbors make tomato sauce (…i think) in their garage. They invite family over and do ‘whatever it is they do’ and make the sauce. It’s just one of those nice yearly things. I saw my neighbor heaving bags of tomatoes from his car this morning, so I know the time is near!

- This coil ring by White Metal:

I think it’s great.
they have one in gold too …though I like the silver one better.

- church starting at 11:00am instead of 10:0am! Yay! I can sleep in even longer!! …though, this means that a mid-afternoon nap is particularly hard to justify.

- water chestnuts “CRUNCH!”
