It’s the weekend, and I smell good.

December 14, 2007

(new bodywash.)

There are so many things I want to do this weekend! The list includes:
- get my hair braided
- relax
- catch up on the blogs I read (/used to read)
- make more Christmas cards
- finish knitting the scarf
- sleep
- do a couple things for work so that Monday isn’t crazy busy

I should point out that the list does NOT include Christmas shopping!!
…but not because I’ve done all my shopping already — far from it!
I’ve excluded shopping b/c I *really* want to do the majority of my shopping downtown at cool independently-owned stores.

I started today! And it was great!!

We had our office ‘Christmas lunch’ today from 1:30-3:30, so we got the last hour of the day off work.
…I, of course, had to return to the office, but I did end up leaving there at 4:00, so that was nice.

I decided to do some shopping on Queen Street.
And I discovered that I work REALLLY close to Much Music!! (I always seem to be surprised when I realize that things are close by… like the Umbra store…)

So I kept walking west on Queen Street past all the ‘regular’ stores and through a cool “crafty” area where there were tons of fabric stores and bead shops, and then I hit Ten Thousand Villages and I turned around. (But not before getting a few things in the store!)
And I visited a whole bunch of other stores.

It’s always funny going into stores I’ve never heard of.
Sometimes I find the coolest things, and then other times I realize as soon as I step through the door that I don’t like ANYTHING in the place.
…and then you have to walk around the store pretending to look at things while the store owner watches you.

There were times when I went in stores and the sales people were really cool and friendly and I wished that they had something in their store that I liked so that I could support them.

I randomly walked in one store called The Outer Layer and as soon as I stepped into the place I thought, “I LOVE THIS STORE!!!”
It’s full of colour and cards and other fun things.

Their website says this: “Our staff is professional and knowledgeable, but relaxed – they wear comfortable shoes and genuine smiles.”
It’s true, (well actually, I don’t know about that shoe part. …I didn’t check) one of the staff people was stocking shelves and humming along to the Rufus Wainwright cd they were playing in the background. So that was fun.

I bought a bunch of things there, including a couple things for myself!
Like, this wallet:

I picked up as soon as I saw it. IT’S BROWN AND ORANGE!!!
It cost more than I would usually spend on a wallet, but I like it a lot, so I’m justified :)

And the thread is yellow, which is exciting:

Is it just me or do the buttons look like Reeses Pieces?

yum!!

Anyways, it’s made by Espe who make many cool wallets (among other things.)
they have a cool business card too. (I’ve been paying attention to biz cards lately b/c I want to make a non moo-card business card for Kiwi Punch Designs.)

….and have they have the word ‘Arthur’ on the bottom right of their site!
how cute.

  9. Things we Lost - The preview I saw for it looked great! It’s with Halle Berry and Benicio Del Toro.

I haven’t seen Bee Movie yet. …but I’m kinda turned off by all the promotion they did for it. I see it more as a rental.
but I’ll see it if you guys want to.

That’s the movie I really really want to see!

  11. hey! so i dunno if this is too late (judging by the time u last posted, cat, i’m gonna assume it’s not. lol) - i saw Bee Movie - not bad, i liked it. but it’s not something you need to see in theatres, in my opinion. so i’d save it until it came out on dvd. lol. hope that helps with decisions :)
