Malaria-watch.

March 31, 2008

I don’t have malaria!
hurray!!

A couple days ago I received a letter from the Canadian Blood Services telling me that my malaria ‘waiting period’ is now over and they want to take my blood again!

it was pretty surprising because I didn’t even realize that they put me on a formal ‘waiting list’! …and the letter they sent to me was like ‘malaria specific’!

Anyways, it’s good to know that my blood is wanted again ;)

oh, here’s one of my paintings!
I wanted something super bright
…and I ended up with this:

hah!

up close:

Today looked like this:

fun!! …in a dreary and foggy kinda way.

a night with paint

March 30, 2008

I’m painting right now.

it’s fun! …though I’m a bit saddened that I don’t instantly love whatever I throw on the canvas… but I probably shouldn’t have expected that from myself.

(hmm, maybe I should literally ‘throw’ paint on the canvas! That would be fun AND no doubt lead to some interesting results..)

okay, that’s what I’m going to do with the big painting I want to make! Maybe make ‘water balloons’ filled with paint or something!! (eee! I’m excited!!)

anyways, right now i’m haphazardly putting paint on these 3 canvases that I bought. one is done.
i like it enough.
though it’s the opposite of what I was going for. (pics to follow when I eventually upload them onto my computer.)

oh yes, i’m using my dad’s new laptop to write this post!
ahh the pleasures of using a laptop that doesn’t overheat! it’s spectacular.
(hmm the word “spectacular” might be a little over the top)
we bought him a Sony Vaio. I like it. it looks like it could take a beating.

I want a new laptop.
:)
but my sis has 2 laptops with her in the US, and they’re both new (her school gave her one). So apparently the next time we meet up I’ll be able to take her oldest one from her. …that’ll be fun!!

anyway, my mom and I went looking at apartments this afternoon.
It was very random,
1: ‘Do you still want to go?’
2:‘Go where?’
1:‘Looking at places.’
2:‘oh… right. um… sure, let’s go…’

we saw one place at Yonge and Eglinton.
And I noticed that THERE’S AN ESSENCE DU PAPIER IN THE AREA!!!!
yes. I was very excited.
The more I hear about the area, the more that I think it’s for me.
24hour Grocery Store, Essence Du Papier… what more could I ask for?

The apartment we looked at is definitely not for me though.
it was pretty cheap, so I should’ve known that it would be a dump.
It was funny when the landlord opened the door for us accompanied by two unleashed dogs.
the carpet in the hallway smelled like he regularly lets them roam free…. and ‘do their business’ wherever they please.
they were cute though.

we ended up going on an extended tour of the city.
we went to Mimico/ Lakeshore area, Jarvis & Gerrard area, the Annex and High Park.

I have time off this week (yay! mini vacation!) so my plan is to spend time on Friday properly looking for a place (ie, making appointments!) and hopefully i’ll find something soon!

though, my first concern should be the upcoming craft show! It’s 4 days away!
YIKES!
I still haven’t made a decision on how i’m going to display my cards… eek.

lights off at 8:00pm

March 29, 2008

classic Catherine. I remembered the whole ‘lights off’ thing. and then forgot. then remembered. then forgot again.

but I remembered at 8:06, so it’s not too bad!

It’s 8:08 right now. … i’m guessing the point is to turn off all electricity, not just turn off the lights?
I’m actually not quite sure how I feel about this whole “Earth Hour” thing. I mean, I’m all for the environment, but what’s the objective here?

I suppose I should just visit the website.
I was going to check it during the week, but I forgot. (/ was doing other things)

Anyways,

I signed up for a Best Buy rewards card this afternoon.
It’s GREAT!
considering how much money I spend at Best Buy…
If I can include a purchase from earlier this week, then I’ve already earned $10!

A few random things:
- progress on my quilt!! yayyyy
I finished a few blocks. This is what the final things looks like:

(minus the random threads…)
And this is why it’s called a Cathedral Window quilt!!

(the sun shines through)

- I made a bunch more dot cards… and had fun punching out the dots:

- The neighborhood barn has been knocked down!

it actually happened a while ago, but I’ve only recently taken a pic of it.

before:

after:

so sad..

- new cds!!
I’m ordering cds from Bell X1, Adele and maybe the City and Horses!

weee music!

- my painting!!
I bought some paint and canvases this afternoon! very excited.

alrighty, i’m off to lite a candle.

“shelcha”

March 28, 2008

I’m really enjoying the Yael Naim album!!!

it’s too bad I don’t understand what she’s saying…

WHAT is going on!?!!

March 26, 2008

So I’m listening to the Yael Naim album right now.

all of a sudden this song starts playing. “hmm, this sounds oddly familiar…”

then the chorus plays:

With a taste of your lips
I’m on a ride
You’re toxic I’m slipping under

it’s a cover of Toxic by Brittney Spears!

what is happening?!

take me to Vegas!

March 25, 2008

I’m watching American Idol right now and I wonder if Paula and Randy get annoyed at how the contestants don’t really care about their opinions.
It seems to me like the contestants only ever really want to get Simon’s “stamp of approval” and who cares what the other two think!

Anyways,
yesterday while I was eating dinner I decided to go to Vegas during the first weekend of April!
VEGAS!
I’m giving myself an extra-long weekend that weekend, so I figure, why not spend it in Vegas? All I really want to do is sleep, and I heard that flights and accommodation in Vegas are really cheap because they want to get people to go there and gamble away spend their money.

but then I decided that since I’m not even a “Vegas-y” person, and all I really want to do during those days is sleep, I might as well stay home!
…so I’ve changed my mind. haha.

hah - I’m watching another one of those Ontario tourism commercials “there’s no place like this”.
I find them very annoying. like, if I lived somewhere else, and kept seeing these commercials, I would vow to NOT visit Ontario!
Anyways, the one I’m watching right now is new and makes me laugh b/c the singer is so “passionate”. But it’s a jingle!!

but yes, my new plan for my long weekend is to make a massive painting to hang in my new place! (don’t have one yet… though I have a lead on a place in Hana’s building! I keep forgetting to call and ask if the place is still even available!!)
I’m excited about it.
It’s not going to be “of anything”, just bright colours and lots of texture! (literally) — I love when you can feel the paint.
I should probably do some ‘test runs’ before I go out and buy the canvas and paint and all that…
hmm, maybe this weekend….

(I feel like I haven’t posted for a while, so apparently I’m posting everything in one big entry!)

That new mac commercial is on tv right now. …which reminds me–> NEW CDs!!

alright, so I bought the Yael Naim & David Donatien album. But to my defense, I didn’t buy it directly b/c of the commercial! …I semi-liked the song when I saw the commercial, and then the video was very cute, and then I saw them perform on some late night show and she was smiling for the entire song…
and then it was on sale at Best Buy! so that clinched the deal!! (wait, is that the word I’m looking for?)

I also picked up the soundtrack for Once — yay!! They were so great at the Academy Awards!!
And a Herbie Hancock album. …not the one where he collaborates with pop stars, but I do want that one too…

Also, work has been “interesting” this week. last week I was told not to work any more overtime.
And I was/am upset… mostly because I felt like they were saying: “we know you love taking overtime and charging us for it, but you have to stop taking advantage of the system.”

whereas in reality, I HATE working so much overtime.
one hour here and there is fine, but the amount that I work right now is ridiculous. AND I don’t even charge them for 1/3 of the time that I do work overtime! like I usually ’round down’ when there’s a half-hour involved, and I don’t charge it if I skip my lunch, or I do stuff at home…

but hey, if they don’t want me to work any more overtime, then they can expect that all the work they ask me to do won’t be completed “ASAP”.

but anyways… it’ll be great! home by 7:00pm!

oh and one more thing- what’s up with Kelsey’s using the Cheers song in their commercials?!! That’s not cool.
