living for the weekend!

June 1, 2008

This weekend was tons of fun.

My original plan for the weekend was just to be a hermit on Saturday.

Here’s what happened:

Friday:
I was super tired after work, so I took a ‘fake nap’ and watched 2 episodes of Matlock. (I think I’ve watched all the episodes now… time to re-watch them!) I haven’t been able to find any news on when Season 2 is coming out. …those 43 dvd sets, sure do look tempting…

Anyways, after that, Hana and Amy came over and we went out for dinner!
The restaurant: Sushi Rock.
(haha, love that name…)
I had stirfry and it was actually really really good. They give a discount for pick-up orders, so they might get to know me. (haha, “the girl who always orders the same thing”.)

After that we came back here and played scrabble. I didn’t take a pic of the board this time though.

Saturday:
I was a hermit for most of the day. (yay!)
I fiddled around with my quilt… I had sewed some of the squares weirdly, so i think it’s gonna have to be a rectangle quilt instead of square.

In the evening I went to see the new Indiana Jones movie with Hana. (it’s cool having a cool person live close by!)
For the most part, I liked the movie. It had some cheesy parts which reminded me of the originals, which i liked.
I wasn’t a fan of the ending though. it was way too ridiculous.

I liked how Harrison Ford was doing his original ‘Indiana Jones’ stuff, and not being just an ‘old professor’.
Like in Firewall.

Anyways, after the movie we hit the local Chapters (browsing for over an hour!) and then one of the many Starbucks in the area.
I picked up one of those Starbucks mugs that I’ve wanted for a while, and it was apparently 50% off! (it was an unmarked sale! …or a cash register malfunction….)

Afterwards, I was walking back to my apartment and realized that it was after 11:00pm and the front door to my building would be locked. …and i’d be locked out, b/c I don’t have a key that works on that door.
It was very disappointing.
So I thought I’d just hang out on the stoop for a while, and this thought actually popped into my head:
I could go across the street and buy cigarettes and then pretend that I’m a smoker while I wait for someone to open the door! …that would give me something to do while I’m standing there, and it wouldn’t be awkward! …of course, I’d have to buy a lighter too.

yeah seriously. I thought that!
i was pretty shocked and appalled at my mind.

It is interesting though. Working on a smoking project almost 7 hours, 5 days a week is making me want to smoke.
well, not really… the thought pops into my head every once in a while, but I wouldn’t actually ever do it…

anyways, I walked up to my apartment building and tried the front door, and it wasn’t locked!!
I was thrilled! ..literally.
I felt like calling people up and telling them that I got into my building!! …but i didn’t b/c it was late. …and that’d be weird.

Sunday:
on Saturday night I searched the net to try and find a church to go to on Sunday morning.
I’m super confused b/c I originally thought that there was an Alliance church north of me. …but then last week I was emailing my mom about it, and I couldn’t find any info on it, so I thought that I must have been mistaken, (like maybe it was a different denomination…)
So at that time, I found that there was an Alliance Church south east of me!

but last night, I discovered that there’s no such church. and the alliance church north of me, does exist! (Bayview Glen)
“ahhh!”

So, I ended up doing a search on ziplocal, or some random site like that, and I came across “Stone Church”.
Which is really close by, and I was intrigued by the name (i wonder what the deal is… maybe they mean ‘Cornerstone’…) so i checked it out, and decided to go.

So this morning, I walk to the subway station, realize that it’s now June and my old Metropass won’t work.
Walk back to my apartment to get tokens.
Walk back to the subway station and decide to just buy a June Metropass.

Then I got on the subway, didn’t like any of the available seats… but i wanted to sit… so I got off at the next subway station and waited for the next train. (where I got a ‘prime’ seat :)

Then at Yonge and Bloor, I somehow couldn’t find Davenport road, and was 15minutes late at this point.

So I figured I would just go home. But first I’d find out where the church is…for next time.
Well, I found it, and there was a woman walking into to church. We were 20 minutes late, and by the looks of her, I was completely under-dressed, but i decided to walk in anyways.

And it all worked out. I wasn’t so much under-dressed, as she was over-dressed, and I think I might choose to go there!

I was talking to my mom about the “odd” name of the church, and it turns out that my dad used to attend the church!
And on Saturday night while I was doing a mini investigation of the church, I discovered that I vaguely know a guy that goes there. He works for a company that we use at work. I know his name more than I know his face though…

anyways,
this afternoon I started my newest painting. It actually looks like it might work out! I’m not 100% sure though.

oh yes, and I bought a wooden Kokeshi doll from a shop after church:

super cute, oui?

I learned something too! The box had this written on it:
KOKESHI doll is the most popular traditional folk-crafts in Japan. It originated in the TOHOKU region (Northeast Japan). The hands of Iather-crafts men who lived in mountains like Gypsy, seek the good materials for their crafts.
Nowadays there are two styles of KOKESHI: traditional and modern. Since the rich and colorful model, polychrome color, the exquisite design and made, the modern KOKESHI is loved by people more and more.

aside: I just saw a spider in my apartment for the first time. It was pretty big too. ewww.
I feel like i’m growing up or something, b/c six years ago I would’ve been freaked out and unsure of what to do…ie how to kill it and what to kill it with.
But now, I calmly got a shoe and smacked it spider against the wall… then put the remains down the drain.
and I’m not even antsy right now!
(haha, i’m proud of myself :)
