the moment of truth
my hydro bill has arrived.
1. I was surprised/pleased that the account had actually been transferred to me. I had a feeling that they hadn’t received my fax, and at the end of June my landlord will call me and be upset that he’s still paying for electricity for my unit.
2. This is when I find out the REAL price of living here. it’s an old building, so maybe my hydro bill will be through the roof!
Before I moved in, the landlord mentioned that since all the appliances are new, the hydro bill probably won’t be too much…
but you never know until you get the first bill right?
so, I open up the bill and I see:
AMOUNT DUE: $98.26
for crying out loud! $100! man, I use a boatload of electricity! I’m gonna have to use an icebox instead of the fridge….and use candles instead of light bulbs…
…and then I look at the cost breakdown:
Account Set-Up Charge: $30
Security Deposit: $60
Delivery: $5.56
Electricity Used (for the month of May): $0.62
wow.
I used $0.62 worth of electricity and somehow they managed to charge me $100.
but still, i’m pleased –> no ice box!
speaking of candles…. I made another painting:

it’s not my most favourite thing in the world…but I think I’ll like it eventually…
and a few other handmade pursuits…
I made a bunch of pins (”brooches”?) yesterday!

and my quilt is coming along.

still lots more to do though…
and here’s some pics of my latest etsy purchase!

it’s a ring!
(an “OAK leaf ring”, to be exact…)
…AND I LOVE IT!
seriously, I think it’s fantastic.
It fits perfectly…. I feel like it’s an extension of my skin!
I think i’ll wear it forever ![]()
It’ll become a staple on my finger!
(ahaha, I suppose that sentence doesn’t quite make sense, eh?)
so, it’s from Etsy seller, Bijoutiful at www.bijoutiful.etsy.com.
(Here’s a link to the ring. Her pics are much better..)
speaking of her, here’s some randomness:
when the package arrived at my house, my mom noticed that her last name is ‘Yearwood’, so she was like, “Yearwood! that’s my mom’s last name! maybe she’s related!”
I didn’t pay her much mind b/c with such a common last name as mine, I never consider that I’m actually related to someone who happens to have the same surname.
But then when I was back at my place, leaving feedback for Bijoutiful, I noted her location: “California, by way of Barbados”
…so I messaged her, and we’ve messaged back and forth a few times, and she’s from Barbados! Which means we actually might be related!
we’re thinking that my grandmother was the sister of her grandfather!
Isn’t that SO random?!
well, she’s going to ask her dad about it and then we’ll see…
