revolution strut

September 30, 2008

There have been a few random things on my mind lately that I haven’t been able to work into any posts…

- the other day, a random squirrel wandered into our office and caused a bit of a hilarious commotion. It was great. Our front door was left open because we were having a press conference and I guess this random squirrel decided to come in as well. He climbed the stairs and ended up in the office of our Executive Director.
First of all - where did it come from?!! We’re in the heart of downtown… I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a squirrel here! …a raccoon I could understand! ..squirrel, not so much.

- Robin Thicke’s new album Something Else was released today, so I picked it up while I was buying cds today. …I couldn’t find Joshua Radin’s new album though, so I’m kinda sad.

- I bought a few sweaters lately that have a clear strip of stretchy plastic attached to the back collar… I feel like it’s there to help keep the shape of the sweater. …anyone know what I’m talking about?
Am I supposed to cut it off? I’ve been wearing the sweaters with it attached. …but I try to use my hair to cover it.

- I like the song ‘Crabbukit’ by K-OS. It’s fun. I like the clapping. And the random whistling in the background. And the saxamaphone.
Don’t like the video though. crabs are disgusting looking. sinister even.

here’s the ‘wood on the wall’ thing I was talking about:

acrylic paint and cotton embroidery thread on canvas.

The more I look at it, the more I like it.

But, I think I like the backside the best:

So, it’s not exactly what I pictured in my mind, so I’m going to try it out again and see what happens….

I dedicated this weekend to card-making and afghan-making if I could fit it in (which I couldn’t).
I took a few pics of my finished cards…
here’s one from today:

hehe I like this one.

And I finished a Christmas card order that I was working on for the past week and a bit:

(more pics here.)

And an order from last week:

bees!!
haha they make me smile when they’re all together.

GOODness for all!

September 26, 2008

So I just got an email from Cecilia re: Good Magazine’s new “Pay whatever you want to pay” deal!
It’s GREAT!!

another reason why GOOD is just SO GOOD!

Here’s what they say on their website:
Our goal is to create a collaborative community of individuals, businesses, and non-profits. We feel that the content is the invitation into this community and we didn’t want to make the invitation too expensive. We thought about what we like and respect, and we decided that what Radiohead did meshed with where our heads are at. So meet the new model for GOOD. Hopefully this is an invitation you’ll accept. Hopefully you’ll find content that turns you on, people who share your mindset, and tools that help you live the valuable life however you see it.

Alright so, I must admit, while I love GOOD and what they do (almost $1Million raised for non-profits!!) and the quality of the GOOD Magazine…. I was a tab bit disappointed when I headed over to the website with the intension of setting my own price for a subscription and discovered that I couldn’t actually do it.
The deal doesn’t apply to us “non US Residents”.

but oh well. $30 is a small price to pay for so much GOODness. And I probably would’ve ended up paying around that anyways… haha, I think I’d feel guilty about getting such a good product for $1.00. … like I ripped them off or something.

oh, and their new website is fun! (www.Good.is) I like how the links at the top left of the page open info at the top. (you have to click them to find out what I mean.)

Anyways, with $1.00 subscription, I can’t imagine why the majority of Americans wouldn’t sign up to receive the magazine! It’s going to be HUGE!!!!

CM is back!

Television has returned! yay!
I watched the much-anticipated Criminal Minds season premiere the other day. it was GREAT!
My favourite line from the episode:
>>you are my God-given solace. Never stop talking to me.
>>I can’t right now, I’m too mad.
>>Okay. I’ll wait.

Anyways, I picked up this little survey on FlyTie’s blog.
1. Where is your cellphone? It’s in my bag…. at my desk.
2. Where is your significant other? I don’t have another cellphone.

5. Your favorite thing: at this exact moment: Apple juice. I had some an hour ago. it was the highlight of my morning.
6. Your dream last night: I don’t think I dreamt anything. …I don’t dream much actually. Is that sad? …I’m fine with it..
7. Your dream/goal? I have lots of dreams. One of them is owning a coffee shop/handmade goods shoppe that becomes a chill acoustic bar at nights. …located in the downtown area of big city, Canada. …with lots of pillows. and thick oil/acrylic paintings of the walls.
8. Your hobbies: sewing, painting, blogging, papering, musicing, making up words-ing.
9. Your fear: hmm… maybe that I’ll never ‘figure out what I want to do with my life’ and end up coasting along the sea of mediocre jobs for the rest of my life. that would really suck.
10. Where do you want to be in 6 years: somewhere where I hear lots of French!
11. Where were you last night?: my apartment, Swiss Chalet, Deserres, random yonge/eg streets…

27. Your favorite color: I can’t remember. i think it’s orange…

the end.
I like how it doesn’t end in a nice even number. :)

…alrighty back to work.

I may have a problem.

September 24, 2008

I’ve been pretty busy these past few weeks.
work is one thing, but I’m specifically talking about my off-work hours. …and more specifically: craft projects.

It’s kind of funny, I went from practically no crafting during university, to absolutely no crafting in Guyana, to substantial crafting back home, to my current state of almost crafting overload! (if there’s such a thing.)

I was working on a rush bulk order of cards on Monday and I thought up a new project, and of course had to start working on it right away, so these past couple days after work have been completely crafting from 5:15pm - 11:30pm. (minus a break for dinner on Monday night.)
it’s fun though.
I’m excited to see how my new project turns out. …I’ll post pics of it when I finish it of course. I’m hoping to finish my rush card order in a few hours tonight, and then I can work more on the new thing! my working title for it right now is, “Tree on the Wall”. :)

hmm, let’s see, aside from that, I currently have these projects on the go:
- 2 ‘large’ KPD custom orders
- a quilt
- an afghan
- 2 paintings for my dad

I think that’s about it. …aside from the ongoing KPD stuff.
hmm, the list doesn’t look that bad.
maybe I should start knitting a scarf!

so anyways, yesterday’s TEDTalk was really interesting. The speaker was a former Finance Minister of Afghanistan, talking about how to Rebuild Broken States. The actual talk is pretty short, but afterwords the organizer asks a couple very interesting questions. (which yield interesting answers. :)

I also finally watched Al Gore’s TEDTalk on Averting Climate Change. I’m not enthralled with him like a lot of people seem to be. …I guess I watched An Inconvenient Truth after the craze, so I didn’t really buy-in to all the hype.

Anyways, I think I’ve just about watched all the Talks that they have an iTunes. What am I going to do?!!
Anyone have any leads on any similarly cool podcasts? :)

Celebration!

September 22, 2008

Everyone’s favourite season has arrived!

Celebrate good times!

Thanks Google for keeping me “informed”.

I’m justa walkin my dog

September 21, 2008

yup - I still love that song.

:)

This weekend was fun!

I was a vendor at the Ladyfest craft market on Saturday. My table was outside, so that was nice. Even if the wind kept threatening to blow down my display…
(thankfully, my mom was more level-headed about the whole thing, and decided that we should figure out a way to secure the display to the table, instead of taking the entire thing and melodramatically throwing the thing into the street — which was what I was going to do.)

so, this isn’t really the place for me to do this, but I’m really excited about it, so I must share:
A new KPD Card:

front:

inside:

ehehehe. This card cracks me up.
(ps - it’s inspired by Facebook.)

anyways, the craft show was at a church across from a fire station.

My mom and I were somewhat mesmerized by the skill by which the Fire Truck drivers backed the trucks into the station’s garage.
they did it so quickly! and with no corrections! (ie, driving forward and straightening out…)
It was very impressive.
I’m doubtful that I would even be able to back up a regular-sized car into their garage in one go….

so you may not have noticed in the picture above:

BBQ on the roof!!

Also nearby was this house:

a little closer…

MOOSE on the roof!!

…how odd…
