while I’m away….

October 22, 2008

I may or may not be writing entries during my vacation, so if you need something to read, check out these blogs:

Gala Darling - Gala uploads entries all the time, so this blog will definitely keep you busy!

How About Orange - who doesn’t love orange? Lots of fun random links are mentioned on this blog!

The Tomato Diaries - So I think this blog is on a semi-hiatus while the author (”Sally Tomato”!) works on a writing a book, but I still recommend it. Her stories CRACK ME UP! Check out the ‘Sally’s Greatest Hits” list in the left column. Or first, read this entry about doing laundry in NYC. Every so often I randomly think of this story and chuckle.

Decor Addict - I just recently started reading this blog. It’s a Canadian interior design blog! ….and Trina recently wrote about me! yay!!

Bugs and Fishes by Lupin - Lupin makes lots of felty goodies. And regularly uploads pics of them!

Operation Nice - I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s worth another mention! It’s nice to read about people being nice….

Life of a Bird - another recent addition to my blogroll!

there are others… but I think those 7 will keep you busy!

Don’t

October 21, 2008

I just saw this over on Murder Burger:

oh dear… now I have that Journey song in my head! …and that scene from Scrubs where Elliot is kissing her boyfriend Shawn while the dolphins jump around in the background.
…anyone else remember that? ;)

the land that I love

October 20, 2008

so it’s true.

I’m going to Vancouver this week.
It’s going to be a fantastical week.

I’m actually super excited. So excited, I don’t even need to use exclamation marks.

Right now I’m looking up how to take a boat ride during my first hours there.

When the dream of going to Vancouver became a possibility I was a bit hesitant.

    1. In my mind, I have hyped up Vancouver to such a high-level that there is practically no possibility that I won’t be disappointed when I actually get there. (Vancouver to me, is like heaven on earth. I don’t know when/how I decided this. but that’s the way it is.)
    2. I’m going to love it so much that I’m going to feel like I’m having a root canal when it’s time for me to board the plane back to Toronto. …and thus, I wanted to go to Vancouver when I had the freedom of not having to leave…

Anyways.
anyone have any tips of what we should do when we’re there? I’m not particularly prepared for this trip….

so, where does the lyric “the land that I love” come from? Well, I’m guessing it’s from a song…
[edit: It’s God Bless America! ahahahaha. mystery solved.]

Thankfully, it’s almost the end of the work day. I have survived another Monday!
Here’s a link from a post I made last year: [link].
That video makes me laugh. a lot.

love this song

October 18, 2008

I just heard about Asa on the Still Dottie blog! It’s a fun blog - a recent addition to my bloglines.
I just noticed that she has weekly features:

    monday: found goodness
    tuesday: blogroll adds
    wednesday: etsy faves
    thursday: craigslist finds
    friday: music to listen to

Interesting eh?

anyways, she posted a video by Asa.

Here’s my favourite Asa song so far:

ps - the ‘video’ isn’t really a video. Just a few pictures.
I do like the song though!

6 things

I’m terrible with lists, but I’m going to try anyway….

I was tagged by Ruth to list “6 unique things”

The ‘rules’ are:
- Link to the person who tagged you.
- Mention the rules.
- Tell six quirky yet boring, unspectacular details about yourself.
- Tag six other bloggers by linking to them.
- Go to each person’s blog and leave a comment that lets them know they’ve been tagged.

“Quirky” eh?

Here’s one - I’ve recently realized that I touch my face a lot. A couple weeks ago at work our Director told everyone that it was a MUST for everyone to wash their hands as soon as they come in the building. (To stop the spread of germs. …you know, health care people think about that kind of stuff…) I’ve tried to do it, and I’m getting better. It’s definitely easier said than done. Anyways, later, I was chatting with one of my coworkers about it and she mentioned that she had previously never made a conscious effort to remember to wash her hands when she came in to the office. (Neither had I.) She noted that it’s not that big of a deal for her because she doesn’t touch her face. like not at all! I think she said it had to do something with having sensitive skin and not wanting to get acne. So since then I’ve been really conscious of how often I touch my face!! I don’t *really* have any problem with it, but it is CRAZY how often my hands go up there! to scratch an itch or when i’m thinking… or sweating. When I’m sweating while thinking!! I use my hands a lot when I’m in boring meetings and need to keep my head propped up. Anyways. just thought I’d share.

2. I don’t like the sound of Styrofoam. it’s like nails on a chalkboard. But worse because styrofoam is everywhere. …when’s the last time you’ve seen an actual chalkboard?

3. I have a terribly hard time making these kinds of lists. …I started this list yesterday afternoon. It’s now 24 hours later and I’m only at #3!

4. My favourite kind of vacations are the last-minute kind. Case and point: I’m going to Vancouver next week!
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

5. I don’t like showing my feet in public. But I do where flip flops fairly often. Cause I also don’t like wearing socks…

6. my new favourite word: “shucks”. Best said with a fun ‘aww nuts’ arm gesture.

boy, that was difficult!

erm…. I’m going to skip the last two rules….
But I’ll ‘encourage’ Hana and Ceci to make a 6 Things list on their blogs!

election’s over!

October 15, 2008

i love the sound of cars driving along a wet road.
swish!

…I think it rained tonight.

I received JOSHUA RADIN’s NEW ALBUM in the mail today! (wheeeee!)
It came out on Sept 30th, but it took me a week to realize that it was released in the UK only. (surprising!) So I ordered it online. (And then realized that it would’ve been way cheaper to get it through iTunes. …but oh well. At least I have the lyrics now! :)
It’s very exciting.
I walked in my building this morning and my amazon box was just sitting out in the open for anyone to take!
— shocking! —

If I had been here when the postman came by I would’ve ran out and said “Wait a minute Mister Postman!! Waaaait Mister Postman!!!! …Mr. Postman look and see… if there’s a letter in the your bag for me….”
(hah, I crack myself up.
…sorry it’s late…)

So the election is over. and we’re back to exactly what we had before. …what a big waste of time!
…well, not really…
I feel bad for the Green Party. I like them. classic underdogs. they try so hard.

here’s something interesting. Google SketchUp. It’s free software to ” create, modify and share 3D models”.

Google is great super. I need to work there.

“we were 17 again together”

I’ve been listening to a lot of Ingrid Michaelson lately. It’s great ‘at work’ music.

…and I’m going to stop using the word ‘great’. I think I’ve written it in 20 emails so far today. sheesh.

So, WiLT: October 15, 2008:

Cigarettes burn for about 12 minutes, but smokers only inhale for about 30 seconds. As a result, for 11 minutes and 30 seconds, smokers and non-smokers alike are breathing in:
    a) Mainstream Smoke — the smoke first inhaled by the smoker and then exhaled.
    b) Sidestream Smoke — the smoke that goes into the air from the end of a burning cigarette. It contains twice the nicotine and tar than mainstream smoke and 5 times the carbon monoxide.

Talk about brutal!! I didn’t realize secondhand smoke was that bad for you!
One of the few things that I don’t like about my apartment is that I smell cigarette smoke fairly often. I’m not sure if it’s from people smoking on the stoop, or if it’s people walking by on the street, but it’s started to get annoying. …especially when they’re not smoking the good-smelling cigarettes…

(just joking ;)

closing the windows definitely helps, but I like hearing the chaos of the street.

repeating myself

October 14, 2008

This post is dedicated to something I seem to repeat all the time: I love my apartment!

I spent today “cooped up” in my flat. (well, minus a coffee-run to Tim Hortons.)

I think I would be a great work-at-home type person! …although I would need some ‘ground rules’.
1. I would need to have to ‘check-in’ to the office (via email) by say 10:00am. That way, I wouldn’t sleep in until mid-afternoon!
2. my deadlines would have to be ‘end-of-day’ type deadlines (ie, 6:00pm) so that I don’t end up procrastinating during the day and working on stuff at 10:00pm!
3. of course, I would have to find the work interesting and worth-while.

After my work day I started snapping pictures of nooks and crannies that I enjoy.

This pic is my fav of the set:

ehehe. toes.

it’s almost midnight and I just can’t seem to turn off the tv!
silly politics. why is it so interesting?! hmm, maybe ‘interesting’ isn’t the word. Perhaps ‘appealing’ a more suitable word.

maybe I should take some poli sci courses! … I took one in uni that was enjoyable. It was very basic stuff though.

Anyways.
Here is the French Knot canvas that I was working on.

“interesting” eh?

it reminds me of an amoeba. I’m not quite sure what that is… but that’s what it reminds me of.

French knots are fun though.

hehe mastercard.

hehe, this commercial makes me smile:

(seen on the quaint handmade blog. …a new addition to my blogroll!)

WiLT - today and yesterday

October 13, 2008

haha, I’ve already forgotten to record my daily learnings!

So yesterday I learned how to make French Knots!
This video is the one that did it for me. I had a picture- tutorial in front of me and it just wasn’t working. but that video is GOLDEN!

And today I learned that Billy Graham has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
I read that in a book. :)
