si pero no

November 30, 2008

I like this song. I have no idea what the lyrics are though. (well…aside from the title… whichI believe means “yes but no”.) The video doesn’t give many clues either. Though, I do find it oddly interesting. 1. what’s up with the cheek-to-mouth sideburns?! Seriously!
2. why does the woman keep touching herself? It’s like she was told, “just keep touching yourself. ….in slow motion.”
odd odd.

so speaking of music, I wanted to mention that I’m enjoying Wayne Brady’s album!
(hahaha, yeah, I did just say that.)

I feel like it’s the type of album that I expected Ruben Studdard to make.
I am surprised though that Brady’s album includes two songs that are also on Australian Idol Guy Sebastian’s “Beautiful Life” album!

interesting!

anyways, when preparing to write this entry (these blogs are hard work you know! ;) I decided to look up Guy Sebastian to see if he’s gonna be coming out with a new album any time soon, cause it has been a while….

and lo and behold… he has two (TWO!!) albums out that I didn’t know about!

For crying out loud!!

Here’s one of them:

So now I have to decide whether to download the new albums or buy them on Amazon. With his previous 2 albums I downloaded one and bought the other one off Amazon. Both have their pros and cons.
Here’s a chart!

wait, what’s the point of a pro/con list? Is there supposed to be an obvious winner by way of having the longest items? If so, I’m apparently not very good at making pro/con lists.

anyways, I’ve decided to download them. If I bought them on amazon.com it would probably end up being at least $10 more than iTunes.

moving along…

I am pretty shocked and appalled that I didn’t know about Guy Sebastian having two (TWO!!) albums out.
so I turned to Google.
and searched: “keep track of favourite musicians”
(I figure, there must be some kind of application out there that will keep track of my fav musicians for me and tell me when a new album is being released. there must!!)

The #1 result was titled: “How can I keep track of my favorite musicians?”
(I LOVE GOOGLE!)
It was from the site www.AskDaveTaylor.com, and some like-minded person asked:
“I live for music and have a ton of different musicians and bands that I want to keep track of. I know I can go to somewhere like Google News + Technorati and create dozens of searches, but, man, it’s the 21st century, surely there’s an easier way?”

Dave Taylor responded
by suggesting an application called Earfeeder.com which basically scans your iTunes account, makes note of all the artists and then creates an RSS feed that updates you on the artists’ tour dates and new releases!

FANTASTIC!

So the Earfeeder website is not working for me right now :( but I’m hoping that Cnet won’t let me down!

Now I’m off to download EarFeeder and Guy Sebastian’s latest 2 albums!

[5 min later….]
Alright, so here’s my lesson for today… next time I decide to do some decision-making involving downloading or buying music, I will check out my options first and make sure that iTunes does indeed have the album(s) that I am looking for. I just checked for Guy’s albums and they don’t have either of them! cheese on bread.

I can be a computer analyst!

Here’s today’s song of the day!

The Fact Is (I Need You) - by Jill Scott

I love this song.

quiet lately…

November 27, 2008

I’m trying to decide whether to go outside and get dinner, or to just ‘craft through dinner time’ and go to sleep early… hmmm

In the meantime…Here’s some randomness!

Yoplait’s Vanilla Tango Yogurt is amazing. I had one today that tasted like a creamsicle. Bacteria has never tasted so good!
//
I ‘read’ this blog entry this afternoon and I thought it was SO moving. The blog is called “The Adventures of BaldyLocks” (have I mentioned it before?) and the description is: “Welcome to the Adventures of BaldyLocks, one girls adventures through Chemotherapy Land and beyond. Her quest; to live and discover the new normal of life.”
I’m not quite sure why I was so captured by this entry. …possibly because she hadn’t written in a while and this felt like she had lots to say but didn’t want to ‘get it all out’ at this particular moment, so she posted a simple picture and one word.
//
What in the world?

//
Apparently I have no chopstick skill.
I went out to dinner last night and apparently I can’t use chopsticks! surprising!
I feel like I used to know how to use them, back in the day of ‘Dim Sum Sundays’…. but maybe I didn’t…
or maybe chopstick usage isn’t like riding a bike…
//
Have I mentioned that I’ve been painting again?
Here are some sneak peeks:

//
Speaking of sneak peeks, here’s something else I finished up this week. I think I’m wayyy too enamored with it:

//

As I was walking through the subway station tonight a subway performer tipped his hat at me. It cracked me up! (internally). I can’t say I can remember someone ever doing that to me. …. possibly b/c I don’t know many cowboys…
Anyways, I think maybe I will make an effort to support the subway performers. They’re just trying to make a living right?

alright, I’ve decided to stay in. I’m gonna try and find something edible in my freezer. …wish me luck! :)

new favourite word

November 25, 2008

today was fun.

After work I took a stroll down Queen Street and bought some fabric. I really like those little independently-owned fabric and notions shops.
They’re so cute!
I went to one tonight that had floor-to-ceiling shelves of little brown boxes containing all kinds of buttons.
I was drawn to the fabric covered ones. …but I managed not to buy any! surprising!!

Right before I got on the subway to come home I popped into Burrito Boyz for some dinner (yum!) and passed by the new neighbouring restaurant called Smoke’s Poutinerie. “Poutinerie”. What a great word!
I was reminded of an article in Toronto Life that describes T.O’s 5 Best Poutines. I love poutine. ….in a ‘I don’t want to eat it’ kind of way. It doesn’t seem like it has anything healthy in it.
Though, the poutines that T.Life features have ingredients like foie gras and lobster…

Speaking of T.Life, in their latest issue they featured K’Naan. I haven’t actually read the article yet, but it’s on my to-do list. I have inherited a few of his songs on my iPod and I haven’t quite made up my mind as to whether I like his music or not.
He’s definitely unique though. I’ll give him that.

Anyways,
I recommend this TEDTalk:

It’s Samantha Power (interesting bio!) telling “a story of a complicated hero, Sergio Vieira de Mello.”
Surprisingly, there aren’t any powerpoint slides (unusual for TED!), so it’s a good one to “watch” by listening only.

oh, and here’s another Talk I watched this week:

It’s called “Tidying Up Art” by Ursus Wehrli, and I don’t get it.
The audience was cracking up, but I don’t understand what’s so funny!
…oh well.

song/video in my head

November 23, 2008

This morning I saw this video on BET:

1. I can’t get the song out of my head. I find it over the top. But it is oddly memorable….
2. I love the video. … look at the choir singers! AH! I love their dancing. love.

Speaking of ‘memorable’, I went to a very interesting church this morning. A non-denominational place in Brampton. We walked in about 30 minutes late and they were in the midst of the “let’s greet each other” time.
I have never seen anything like it.
Besides us, from what I could see, only one other person was still at her seat. EVERYONE was wandering around and greeting people (hugging and whatnot), and it wasn’t just a ‘greet 5 people’ type thing, but it was more like a ‘greet all the other 200 people there’ event.
at least 15 minutes long.

In fact, the majority of the service made me smile. The church seemed to have the philosophy that the clock did not matter. Every section continued until the speaker felt like ending it. (Greeting, singing, announcements, sermon etc).

hey, did you know that Wayne Brady came out with an album a few months ago? It’s about time….
I just found out today. I’m listening to the album right now.
And I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it…but if you want to buy it, go for it!

Link list - 11/21/08

November 21, 2008

a few blogs I read (Gala, Nubby etc) do this… list links to fun/interesting/cool sites once a week.

I’m not organized enough to do that… but here are some links I like this week, ending November 21st, 2008:

- Literary Tattoos: A site with a collection of tattoos based on books, poetry, music etc! The site has images of the tattoo and a little blurb about the meaning behind the tat and the source! Fascinating!!

- Make your own pom poms from Kid Craft Central! so THAT’s how it’s done!

- Smiles Made Easy

fun ‘fill-in’ stationary! I found this site through TrulyCanadianMade which also just happens to have a link to Kiwi Punch Designs! fun!

- Umbrellas.net

Home to many many beautiful umbrellas! (FYI: they ship to Canada!) I found this site by way of How About Orange.

- Something Nice
Presented by MADE, Something Nice tear off posters by designer Todd Falkowsky. These posters are available for FREE DOWNLOAD on the MADE site!
I’m tempted to print some off for my office, but I’m not 100% sure how the staff will take to it. These are definitely great to post around town though!
(I found this site via Operation Nice.)

sweet letter

November 20, 2008

I should share my blog list on here. I read a lot of great blogs.
for the most part the blogs are of 20-something child-less females who make stuff, but every so often a few other types of writers slip in….
come to think of it, I probably *should* diversify a bit more. like read some kind of professional or personal development articles on a daily basis…

Anyways,

I just came across this beautiful entryover at the OneGirlDesignWorks blog. (She’s a new mother.)

The entry is so sweet, I just had to share it….

Online shopping - 5 sites to check out!

so it’s *almost* time for me to start thinking about shopping for Christmas gifts!

In the past couple months I’ve come across some interesting sites for random gifts. Here are a few of them!

[ps - I’m not going to mention Etsy (even though I will probably do some Christmas shopping on the site) because it doesn’t fall into the category of ’sites I just found out about’. …actually ‘just’ is a relative term… okay, maybe I will mention Etsy. ]

#1: Etsy! (http://www.Etsy.com)
Home to many many handmade goodies.
I recently came across this guy: “Creepy Crusty” from the shop Aimsy.

hehe he makes me smile.

Here’s a cool looking iPod ‘iSockit’ by Blythe King

mmm herringbone….
I need one of those for my camera!

#2: The Curiosity Shoppe! (http://www.curiosityshoppeonline.com/)
Five reasons why I like this site:
a) the products are fun,
b) the shoppe owners write in a way that makes me laugh,
c) They use the word ’shoppe’!! Adorable!!
4) (haha I switched) they have a blog! and
5) they offer live chat, if you have questions! fun!!
And I’m like 99% certain that they offer shipping to Canada. (Canada isn’t “International” to Americans right?)

#3: Elsewares (http://elsewares.com/commerce/index.php)
Fun unique products.
Here’s what they say about themselves:
“We’re a catalog of unique products from independent designers, artists and entrepreneurs. We celebrate innovation, cottage industry, and well-made goods.”

sounds good to me!

#4: Old Tom Foolery. (http://www.oldtomfoolery.bigcartel.com/)
random and very funny greeting cards. I love their simple look.

#5: Fred (http://www.worldwidefred.com/home.htm)
many many random gift items! (including my fav cassette tote!)
I’m also a big fan of the HACKED flash drive!

Here’s part of their product description:
“—somebody just went and TORE MY FREAKING USB
CABLE IN HALF while it was still attached to my laptop! No — wait — sorry. That’s just my USB flash drive. My bad. Nevermind.
Mammoth 2-gig capacity. Peggable blistercard packaging.”

hah. love it.

SUCCESS! I made a list of five!! celebration!!!!
