to-do list check-in & SNRU #7

March 29, 2009

So, I’m still working through the list.
But there is cause for celebration - I’ve accomplished #1 AND #2, and I’m working on #4!
YAY!

maybe I’ll be able to get to #3 tomorrow.
oh - and I added another item to the list - HAIR!
(unbraiding, washing, straightening, braiding…) it takes forever. But I suppose it’s all worth it when I can get an extra 10minutes of sleep in the morning.
This afternoon I decided to braid my hair instead of taking a nap. Which meant that I was super tired and didn’t care if I was making a mess of my head.
The result is that I decided to braid only the top half of each braid.
…seriously.

It actually doesn’t look that bad right now (it’s curly!) but we’ll see how it looks tomorrow morning.

anyways…
time for Sunday Night Round-up #7! (Apparently I missed it last weekend. …I wonder how that happened…?)

So the whole point of SNRU is to mention links and stuff from the web. but since I haven’t really been browsing these past two weeks, I’m going to share some of the pics that I uploaded from my camera!

ZipCar!

Here’s an inside shot:

It looks cool at night.

Here’s one thing I was confused about:
Actually, make that two things - #1 - I couldn’t figure out how to roll down the windows…
#2 - when you turn on your ‘changing lanes indicator’, an icon on the ‘dashboard’ lights up.
the icon looks like this:
< - ->
It shows both the right and left arrows.
…so if you didn’t know how to drive, you could accidentally flick the indicator the wrong way, and you’d have no idea.
it’s odd.
other than that, the car was fun. EXTREMELY small though. I was surprised.

alright, I should wrap this up….
here are more pics!

These are some desserts from one of my latest meetings:

does this look appetizing to anyone? It doesn’t appeal to me. too dainty I think. (I’ve discovered that I don’t like anything I deem to be ‘dainty’.)

This week I was on the 26th floor of a building downtown.
here’s the view:

I took these pics from the women’s washroom. :)

Earth Hour fanatics

March 28, 2009

Earth Hour’s over!
I decided not to listen to podcasts. This is what I did instead!
1) Took a nap
2) Washed my hair.
fun times!

So, it’s 10pm now, and I haven’t actually accomplished much of my to-do list.
I’m still working on #1.
I stayed at the coffee shop for a couple hours and then ended up at the airport.
random!

anyways, onward and upward. - back to work!

Free wifi at Davisville Station!

I’m in Second Cup right now.

This morning I decided to come down to Davisville and sit somewhere and just pound through all this work I have to do.
Here’s my list, in order of what I’m going to do first:
1) A report for work. A manager asked me to have it completed last week, but she was on vacation on Friday (that was when I was planning on giving it to her), so I sent her an email and told her I’ll work on it during the weekend and send it to her before Monday.
She’s not much of a weekend-worker, so I don’t think this’ll be an issue…
2) Upload pics to my computer. Some of these are work-related, some aren’t. I figure I’ll need to take a mind-break after finishing the report. (Which isn’t actually anything intellectual. If anything, it kills brain cells… It’s uber tedious.)
3) Work on my friend’s wedding invites Have I mentioned these on here yet? I’m making wedding invites! And they’re a bit unconventional, but I like them….and that’s all that matters. (joking - the bride/groom like them too :)
4)Website stuff for work Exciting news! It wasn’t my fault that the CMS wasn’t working the other day! It was some super strange glitch! But now it’s all figured out (not be me) and seems to be working now. So the plan is to make the website ‘presentable’ so it can be launched in the near future.

That’s all for now I think.
Earth Hour is tonight, so the plan is to get home in time for that. I’m not sure what I’m going to do. Originally I thought of just hanging around in the dark and listening to podcasts. But am I not supposed to use any electronics?

anyways, maybe I’ll write again in an hour or so when my pics are uploaded!

oh frustration.

March 26, 2009

so I’m trying to use this open source content management system and it is fruuuustrating.

like, I almost want to throw my computer out the window.
argh!

thankfully though, I have other work to do, so I’ll do that now, and do the other work when i’m in the office.

I’m very excited for the end of ‘March madness’ at my workplace!
I’ll be able to focus on my personal-work projects!!

…and maybe, just maybe, take a day off!!

hi blog!

March 24, 2009

Here’s an entry I wrote earlier today:

So I’m sitting here on the train. I’m returning home from my less-than-24-hour trip to Ottawa.
It was great. (sarcasm.)
Actually I *almost* had a freak out on way here.
I was sitting doing work and then someone sat beside me (*gasp! The audacity!) and then they served our meal. (I’m in first class! Woohoo!)
I actually have a lot of work to do, so I was sitting there with my meal in front of me, completely without an appetite and trying to telepathically tell the servers to remove my tray so I could open up my laptop and get back to work.
After the meal (but before they removed the tray) they came by with a tray of chocolate treats for us to choose from and I refused. (Crazy!! …I tell you, I was almost freaking out!)

Anyways, they eventually removed the tray (it seemed like the entire meal took an hour minimum!!) and I was able to get back to work.

So I now have a bit more perspective on the whole ‘workload’ issue. (“perspective”= “apathy”?) and I’m able to laugh about the whole thing.
Thankfully.

My ride home has been less stressful, though surprisingly, more full of work! I’m actually taking a break right now because my eyes have begun to glaze over from the look of spreadsheets.
I was going to take a nap, but I realized it’s not even 9pm and I shouldn’t be tired.
maybe it’s all the booze. …have I mentiozed that there’s free alcohol on first class?!!

Speaking of first class, they have these AMAZING chips that I’m going to have to find in T.O. They taste like sundried tomatoes, and they’re made of potatoes, tomatoes and spinach.
“Yuck!”
They taste fairly salty too, but the sodium content is only 5% of the day’s recommended intake, so that’s good.

Anyways,
I’m listening to Guy Sebastian right now. His “Closer to the Sun” album reminds me of church. And zipcar!
(I’ve been listening to his album every Sunday morning for the past few weeks.)

speaking of Zipcar,
last Sunday I arrived at the parking lot and my car wasn’t there! (brutal!)
So I called the ZipCar Hotline (they don’t call it that) and the lady set me up with a mini cooper for the price of the car I originally intended on renting! Sweeet!

It was super small. (my head almost touched the ceiling!) The Smartcar actually felt more roomy then the Mini Coop. crazy.

Anyways, the mini coop was not within close walking distance to my location so I had to hail a cab to take me to the parking lot – and zipcar is covering the cost of the taxi!!

I kinda feel bad for the person who didn’t return the car on time. Late fees start at $30. And I bet Zipcar will charge them not only for my taxi and for the discount that I received, but probably a big processing fee as well!

Anyways, this has been a nice break.
Now back to work!

Here’s a video of Guy:

mmm Aussie pop.

yawn

March 17, 2009

it’s late, I should sleep…

but this silly ‘Sunday Night Round-up’ post is looming over my head.

so, I’m a couple days late…

I went on an adventure on Saturday with some buds.
The day included randomly wandering around Toronto, a visit to the Distillery District:

yup. I love it there.

there was also a trip to a nearby French patisserie! (La Bamboche)

on a different note…

I’m a big fan of this ‘Kit to Thwart Writers Block‘:

it’s very clever. It even comes with pre-chewed pencils! hilarious!

This picture by Rebecca Miller is SO relaxing!

I’m a big fan.

nighty-nite!

virus-city!

March 16, 2009

alright, so my computer went cRAzy this weekend with viruses.
surprising!

I managed to clean it up on Sunday, and it was working beautifully! the pesky google-related malware was gone too!
It was brilliant!

…but tonight when I turned my computer on, a couple malware programs were back. …including the google one!
“nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo”

it’s interesting.

anyways, this video is comical. I just saw it over on Estela’s blog!
it’s the song ‘Daylight’ by Matt and Kim.
drums in the shower?

I have this song on my iPod and it makes me smile.

Benylin shall save the day

March 13, 2009

..right?

My cough got worse today so I decided to buy some medicine. This may have been my first time buying cough medicine for myself! I decided to go for Benylin cause it said “Extra-strength” AND “Fast Acting” on the box.

I would’ve gone for Buckley’s but I couldn’t find it.
bummer. I like their commercials.

unrelated:
look how CUTE this commercial is!

When I was walking to the pharmacy some guys behind me used the term “walkie-talkie” and I realized that that is a hilarious word!!
Random knowledge: According to Wikipedia, the walkie-talkie was developed by a Canadian.

More random knowledge I gained today:
Apparently when a T.O police officer is suspended with pay, they have to sign-in to the police headquarters twice a day. (unless they get special permission not to.)
So in the case of one recently suspended officer, he still goes to “work” every morning, signs in, and then hangs out with his co-worker friends.

Anyways,
Guess what Canadian celebrity I saw today:

Yup! George Stroumboulopoulos.
In-person, he looks exactly like how he looks on tv.
