so I’ve come to the realization that I’m not a very good birthday person.
I’m not quite sure what it is, but I always seem to be pissed off on my bday.
….This year was no exception.
A week ago, someone at work was saying that the way you feel on your birthday is the way that you will feel for the rest of the year.
heh, that’s a bad sign for me!
I think I was in a worse mood today (”the day after”) than I was yesterday.
oh also, I think I’ve decided to do nothing “special” for this year’s birthday. I thought I should do something extravagant to commemorate reaching the ‘quarter of a century’ mark, but I have no ideas.
(well, that’s not true. I have one fantastic idea, but it involves quitting my job and moving to Quebec City. And I don’t have enough guts to do that…)
oh a happier note,
check out the cake my parents got me!
hehe. “blop”
on an unrelated note…. look what I bought during Easter: Gobstoppers!!
so I was at Walmart and I saw a box of these things and thought, “I used to love these! I should buy a box!”
so I did.
and then I ate two of them and thought, ‘these are just balls of sugar that take a long time to eat!’
so…I’m not sure what I’m gonna do with them.
maybe I’ll put them on my coffee table and eat them slowly…
they are super fun to photograph though.
how exciting!
I’m actually in Mississauga. I’m a *tiny bit* bummed because I ‘envisioned’ that I would spend a portion of the day sewing in the park. …but I’m sort of stranded at home here, so a walk to the local coffee store will have to suffice.
anyways, my mom sent me a link to this organization a few months ago and I think it’s just great.
Not Just Tourists
<>“We are a volunteer-based, not-for-profit project that collects surplus medicines and medical supplies for use in Cuba and other developing countries. Canadians travelling on business or vacation deliver these supplies to a hospital or clinic in their travel destinations.”
(I kinda feel bad that I didn’t know of this organization earlier…)
one thing to note: they ask that you give them at LEAST one week’s notice of your vacation.
I wonder what whether customs has an issue with this…
oh - NJT Toronto’s 2008 Annual Report is available on their site too!
I’m watching Martha right now. (not sure why…)
this chef guy is making ‘citronette’! (as opposed to ‘vinaigrette’)! I didn’t even know there was such a thing…
I feel the urge to make soup.
(I don’t even like soup.)
the chef boiled stock (ugh, ’stock’) and added peas, scallions and some other stuff, and then put the whole thing in the blender! what fun!
during the weekend, I thought, ‘I haven’t cried in a while…’
So I popped in the Oprah DVD and starting watching the ‘Heartprints’ section.
so touching!
I’m watching the interviews right now.
oh Oprah.
anyways, check out yesterday’s Google Doodle:
It was Samuel Morse’s birthday.
and an exciting birthday gift!
Thanks Manz!! (She knows me wayyyy too well!) I am not a paper cup!! *yayy*
I’ve wanted this since last year!!
SC apple cider! (yum!)
antibacterial hand lotion. (hand lotion that’s antibacterial!! I LOVE this stuff! … “it smells like laundry”)
and all in a bright yellow bag!
The whole thing worked out as well as it could, I suppose.
I had to be in Markham for work, so there was time to ’sort things out’.
I went to work as normal and then stayed at the hotel in Markham on Thursday night. (this was all planned.)
and my mom found the extra set of keys I gave her. and then my dad gave them to be on Friday.
hurrah!
alright, so I’ve learned my lesson…
on Monday I will take my extra set of keys to the office. …instead of leaving them on my coffee table.
Who’s excited about the weekend?! I’m stoked!!
On Flashpoint tonight they went to a club at Wellington & John!
The Entertainment District!!
I was so excited!! That’s close to where I work!
hehe, I wonder if people from NYC get excited when they watch Law and Order?
When I was at the meeting in Markham one of my coworkers mentioned that she was excited to get out of the office. It’s interesting, we have the same position title, but our jobs are so different.
I hadn’t realized that she only gets out of the office when there’s a “big” meeting going on. I feel like I’m out of the office all the time. And I hadn’t really considered it as a ‘bonus’. But I suppose it is nice. A lot of work, but nice too…
So, Canada Post is pissing me off. I wish there was a Canada Post Head Office where I can go for definitive answers. It seems like something like that should exist….
I went to three post offices on Wednesday and each one told me something different. The best was the last one where the lady told me one thing, then contradicted herself, and then, by the time I decided to walk out of there, she had settled on an “I don’t know” answer.
When I left I had that frustrated feeling I would get when I used to go into Future Shop.
I wish there was a “Best Buy-esque” alternative to Canada Post.
Something that provides the same services/products but is more logical and straightforward.
On Saturday I went on adventure to Markham/Richmond Hill to take a craft course.
(It was my first time the VIVA system.)
We made an impromptu trip to Michaels too.
And I bought ribbon!
prettty..
I can’t remember what else I did on Saturday. I probably just hung around at home.
Sunday involved the regular things…
- zipcar
- church
- napping
- CBC radio
eventually I had enough of the CBC and decided to do something else. So I was thinking about it and then realized that it was a gorgeous day!
So I quickly threw some stuff into a bag and ran outside to the park!
And that’s how I ended up journaling in the park!
so… it wasn’t quite warm enough, but I still had a good time.
- Muffin Top cookies!
These aren’t exactly Seinfeld style (ie. throw away the ’stumps’) but they still look fun!
- Criminal Records in T.O
I was listening to The Vinyl Cafe this afternoon and they did a mini interview of the Criminal Records music shop in Toronto. Apparently they sell their CDs at or below cost! The idea being that CDs are pretty much a low-profit item, so why not give the customers a good deal and sell them at cost? The hope is that people come into the shop more often and end up buying the items that the store actually makes money on (t-shirts, posters, etc.) The store also seems to be into supporting indie bands, so I suppose part of the low-cost of CDs is related to helping bands get their name out there.
Another interesting point, the store is one of the few independent music stores that is part of the the Nielsen Media Research ratings system. ie, they submit their sales records to Nielsen so that they can keep track of how successful a band is. (and when an album goes gold/platinum/whatever.) There is a cost associated with doing this though (about $500/month) so it’s usually only big companies that participate. And those big companies usually don’t sell many indie albums, and so the indie bands stats aren’t really recorded anywhere…
…that said, I’m not quite sure where the info on this music rating system is located on the NMR website. All this info is from the Vinyl Cafe interview.
…actually, I’m not a fan. I don’t understand them. I guess they’re good for keeping the bikes from getting tangled together? ..and maybe the City of Toronto wants to see more wood on our streets?
Out of the finalists, I did like this one:
It’s not breathtaking, but I thought it was ‘clean’.
- An All-In-One Stamp!
hah!
(thanks Hana for passing along the link!)
- Send a Telegram!
I can’t quite remember what blog/site I saw this on. I love it!
It’s SO simple! …and seems cheap too! ($4.70USD to send anywhere! …i think?)
Go to the website, type in a message, and they will print and mail the telegram to the recipient for you!
- This poster makes me smile.
hehe transformers.

- Lisa Hannigan has a new video for her song ‘I Don’t Know’:
1. I love this song
2. I like the idea for this video (though I was a little scared of how she was waving the scissors around. if that was me I would’ve poked myself in the face. …aside: I accidentally sliced my finger tonight! oops! I forgot how sharp new ‘xacto-type’ blades can be…)
3. I like how the band members are included in the video. (hehe paint can snare drum!)
I saw another random Canadian “celebrity” on the street. This guy:
recognize him?
It’s Jake Epstein!
…
aka, the guy from this show:
so… seeing as how I’m not 17years old, should I be embarrassed that I apparently know the show well enough to spot one of the actors on the street? …Is it worse given that he left the show a few years ago?
well, in my defense, I don’t actually “watch” the show. I think it just happened to be on tv when I was sitting in front of it. (week after week…)
AND, it’s not like there were tons of people around when I saw Epstein this afternoon. He was standing on a fairly empty corner and looked fairly lost. so that’s something. As my cab driver zipped past him (did I mention I was in a cab?) I thought, ‘that guy looks lost.’ [he was the second ‘lost’ person I saw in the last 5 minutes.] then I thought, ‘hey that’s that guy from Degrassi.’
so that’s how that went.
but anyways, that has nothing to do with why today was a good day!
Someone gave me flowers today!!
It was very sweet.
now, I should say, I actually don’t like the idea of receiving flowers at work. I’m not a big, “hey everyone look at what I got!” type of person. (and then everyone walking by comments on them and you have to explain….ugh.)
but I was excited about the flowers because they signified that I was appreciated, which is a really nice thing to hear.
in other news…
I wore these shoes today:
they have a bit of a heel, but they’re basically flat.
and my feet are killllling me!
part of my left foot is actually red!
…that’s QUITE a feat for my feet! (hah!)
I’m tempted to take a picture and post it for you to understand my shock, but that would be fairly disgusting.
so you’ll just have to imagine it.
