bubbly

May 28, 2009

I’ve become semi-obsessed with champagne.
(ever since Van bought me a bottle for my birthday.)

It seems like the best way to celebrate birthdays, mothers’ day, fathers’ day, fridays…. any day actually!

I’m comfortable in saying that, only because I haven’t become an alcoholic (though I think my dad thinks I have…).
I’ve limited myself to only one bottle of champagne per week.

I’m joking, i’m joking!
Due to a purchasing mistake (I bought wine instead of champagne! …and IMO wine=yuck), I’ve only had one glass of champagne since my bday.

I just love the concept of it.
— “opening a bottle of bubbly”
— the ‘pop’
— the fancy glasses
— the toasting

Gala ended one of her posts today with this question: “If you were at a fabulous dinner party right now, what would you toast to?”
here’s my response:
- to So You Think You Can Dance and lazy evenings
- to old familiar laptops and external hard drives
- to friendly coworkers and hilarious conversations
- to moleskine journals and iPod cases
- to planning for the future and not knowing what I’m going to do in a hour…

Cheers!

Addiction House Party!!

May 26, 2009

I discovered a really cool tobacco website last week (www.tobaccofreeflorida.com check it out!)

I was in a drug store last week and I was shocked to see the cover of the latest Macleans magazine:

yikes!
I feel like the addictions community will be up in arms. like, they ‘fought’ for years to get alcohol addiction to be viewed as a disease and now they’ve gone back to square one.

In the Toronto Star last week they had an article entitled “Addiction: Could it be a lie?” the byline is: “A Harvard psychologist’s new book argues that addiction isn’t really an illness, infuriating the medical establishment. We examine his incendiary hypothesis”

Anyways, all this addiction talk reminded me of the HBO Addiction Documentary Series!

…you can watch the various segments online for free!
I was going to do this…but then I thought, why not have an Addictions House Party?!!
(I didn’t make up this idea.)
— Get some people together,
— maybe make it a big to-do and rent out the Beaver Hall Gallery for the screening!
— I can make invitations!
— Maybe convince someone to act as the ‘host’ and facilitate the discussion!

…who’s in? :D

I’m SO excited with this idea!

everything will be okay

I finally got around to buying the Scrubs ‘My Musical’ album off iTunes. (hah! I’m such a fan.)

One of my coworkers told me about Meetup today.
I feel like discovered a secret hidden city!

As far as I can tell, it’s a site where people that facilitates the ‘meeting up’ of people with similar interests. my coworker went to a meeting this weekend for people who like to do collage. It was held in a ‘green’ coffee shop in the east end of the city.
how random!

….I’m SO intrigued!!

I want to go to one!
though, I’m not sure how I feel about meeting some random people who I don’t know…
on that note, anyone want to come with me? :)

anyways,
here are two logos I like!

(does Walmart’s new logo remind anyone else of pharmaceuticals?)

I can’t remember where I saw this, but I like it!

cute!

done and done!

May 24, 2009

I’m done with my latest card project!!
(SOOOO exciting!)

I feel like I have my life back. ..and an abundance of time!!
(maybe I’ll take a nap.)

here are a few random things that I wanted to mention from a few weeks ago…:

— The “Name My Design Company” Machine by Breadline Design:

[found via HowAboutOrange]
HILARIOUS!
If only I knew about this when I was starting my second Etsy shoppe..

— my new source for documentary fun: www.cbc.ca/documentaries
I was working in the park on Friday and ended up listening to The Current for 5hrs or so.

— my dinner a few days ago:

IT’S CORN-ON-THE-COB SEASON!!!!!

–a few weeks ago a friend and I stumbled across this odd “street sign”":

anyone know what it’s all about?
I love it.
here’s a blurry pic to show the scale of it:

Am I the only one who finds this creeeepy?

— A few Sundays ago, my mom was driving me home from Mississauga (it was around 11pm) and after being in the car for 30 seconds we spotted this HUGE GORGEOUS moon.
So, being Moon Chasers (is there such a thing?), we started driving towards it (or, we were driving somewhere where we could stop to take pictures of it.)

After awhile we ended up down by the lakeshore. We stopped in a residential neighbourhood that faces the water and got out of the car and looked at the moon as it reflected on the water.
some guy took out his garbage.
a dog barked.

we eventually found our way back to the highway and went home.

Here’s a pic:

one quick youtube search later…

I FOUND IT! I FOUND IT!!

hehe “Teamwork”!!

“if you have a dream, you want to make it real, you need a team working up steam to make your deam work. teamwork!”

It’s so funny watching that now.
I dunno how old I was when I first saw it, but I just remember thinking it was amazing.
I do still think it’s fun - especially the fire fighter portion. The basketball game reminds me of west side story. love the snapping.

(hmm … I’m not sure where I got the idea that it was in a library though… maybe that was a different episode.)

anyways, Levar Burton was on The Hour recently.

“>
The interview is pretty interesting!

update:
I found it!

butterfly in the sky…

so it’s late.

I decided to take a break from card production and check my email.
and somehow I ended up watching the Reading Rainbow theme.

I remember there was this one episode that I thought was so amazing.
it was a bunch of dancers prancing around a library.
…anyone remember that? (hah!)
for some reason it’s stayed with me all these years.

I think I just like the idea of people dancing in-sync in random public places.
West side story style.

break time is over.

early mornings and glue

May 20, 2009

I am having a hard time motivating myself this morning. it’s only 11am and I feel like it has been the longest day ever.

aside from work, I’m currently engulfed in heavy-duty ‘card’ production. Last night I discovered that my new printer doesn’t hate cardstock if I feed each page manually (yay!) and so I spent a good portion of the night seated on the floor in front of the printer.
I realize now that I probably shouldn’t sit in front of laser printers for extended periods of time… but then again, there’s a printer right by me at work (it’s a HP Color Laserjet as mentioned in this article that says that laser printers can be as bad a cigarettes!), so after 7 hrs at my desk, what’s another few hours at home hurt?
I don’t really buy the cigarette comparison, but I do have cigarettes on the brain (as usual).., there’s a new iPhone application that came out recently. It’s called My QuitLine and connects people to Quit Specialists. (tell your friends ;)
I’m not sure if it works in Canada. …probably not, since it links with a US cancer agency.
I feel like it would be fairly simple to have a Canadian version connect with the provincial smokers’ helplines.

anyways,
I have to make a logo for something and I’m drawing a blank.

on an unrelated note, this TweenBot thing is cute:

edit:
oh gosh, I wrote this without referring at all to the title! jeez.
As I’m head-deep in card production, I’ve had several late nights/ early mornings this week, and I imagine it will continue for the next day at least.
last night I was up watching late night talk shows and using various types of glue on various materials. fabric glue, blue glue stick, cheap white glue. and tonight will be spray adhesive!

I’ve been taking pictures throughout the process, so you can expect lots of pics of stacks of cardstock in the near future.
there’s just *something* about huge piles of cardstock, eh?

in the last few weeks I’ve expanded my collection of scrap cardstock quite substantially. I’m not sure where I’m going to put it all.
…or, what I’m going to do with it all.
the scraps are way to pretty to throw away though.
hmm.

happy sunday!

May 17, 2009

It’s Sunday!! you know what that means… SNRU!

I can’t remember what number this is. oh well.

I usually don’t browse the sympatico/msn website, but since I’m currently using my dad’s computer, I was forwarded to the site and found this list of the Top 10 Most Misquoted Movie Lines.
It’s great!
The list includes:
“Luke, I am your father”
“Play it again Sam”
“Beam me up Scotty”
“Hello Clarice”
“Mirror, mirror on the wall”
“Do you feel lucky, punk?”
(those are the misquotes. Click the link to find out the correct quotes…)

next up, 25 logos with hidden messages.
So interesting!! [via Nubby Twiglet]

I spent a portion of my Saturday sitting around cutting paper and listening to This American Life.
I came across an old episode on Spokespeople and it referred to this commercial:

oh the 80’s…

so.. that’s it.
haha 3 things. I can still call that a ‘list’ right? ;)

stay tuned for when I get back to my computer! (And my collection of bookmarked sites! ..hmm, maybe I should sign-up for one of those ‘online bookmarking’ sites…)

right now, my cold toes are calling out for a snuggly bed.
