weekending

August 30, 2009

a brief overview of my weekend:

#1 - Imogen Heap’s new album was released on Tuesday!!!
I spent the majority of the weekend listening to it.
my fav songs so far are - Little Bird, Aha!, & Bad Body Double

#2 - I spent most of Saturday hanging out with a good friend and her family! …They have two little dogs running around.
and now I want a dog. I could make it work! …I’d just have to get a dog walker! …and a dog sitter ….and a bigger apartment… and a backyard…

#3 - at my parent’s place Saturday night - I fooled around a bit with my new-to-me camera.
It’s a point-&-shoot!

fun fun!
It has a ‘Colour Accent’ feature which I am a big fan of.
It takes a scene like this:

and captures it like this:

hmm, that’s probably not the *best* example of the feature…
oh well.

#4 - I continued snapping pictures of those bright yellow flowers.

some of them are deformed with petals growing out the middle..

#5 - The weekend continued with church on Sunday (yay!) and crafting.
a few bees:

a green Tree on the Wall:

and…..

A new Star Pillow prototype!!!

It took me at least 1.5hours to put it together, but of course, I’m super excited about it.

hugs.

two more names

I have two more names to add to my fav guys names list:

original list:
Hugh
Mordecai
Zaire
Javier

2 additions:
Liam
Lucious (pronounced like ‘delicious’. Just replace the ‘deli’ with ‘lou’)

:)

it’s Friday!!!!

August 28, 2009

This has been one of the longest weeks. So long in fact, that on Wednesday I decided that I should take Friday off from work.

But of course, stuff happened and I decided to go into the office on Friday so that I could finish up the things that I wanted to get accomplished this week.

oh well.
maybe I’ll take next Friday off.

so a friend and I might be spending Saturday doing something from Sarah Von’s list of 25 Cheap or Free Thrills!! fun!

I think she also mentioned this on her blog: 26 Things: A photographic scavenger hunt!

who’s heard of Jelly!?
From their website: “Jelly is a casual working event. It’s taken place in over a hundred cities where people have come together (in a person’s home, a coffee shop, or an office) to work for the day. We provide chairs and sofas, wireless internet, and interesting people to talk to, collaborate with, and bounce ideas off of.
You bring a laptop (or whatever you need to get your work done) and a friendly disposition.”

I love it!!
…if only….

one more thing….
Here’s what I’ve been working on lately!!!

I call it a “Song on the Wall“!!!
(I’m super super excited to see this idea realized!)

So the idea is - each piece features a soundwave and lyric from your favourite song.
more info and pictures here. …and in my Etsy shop!

(and yes, that is a Milli Vanilli song above. :)

poor sodium

Just saw this commercial on tv:
I LOVE it!!
sodium has never been so cute.

and that’s Michael Bolton singing in the background! hilarious!!

(Speaking of ‘Sidekicks’ - I remember buying a couple packages back in university - it’s great that it now has 25% less sodium, but from what I remember, they need to cut out another 50%. those things were salty!!)

I have half a mind to email the Sodium101 people and recommend that they make little sodium figures like the guy in this commercial.
People could use them as visual reminders to cut out the salt!

less internet, more sewing

August 25, 2009

Today was interesting.

1) I stuck my foot in my mouth today.
ugh.
I hate -HATE! - this feeling in my gut! I wish I could turn back time and redo the whole thing.
or, if not that, I wish I could just forget the incident.
It actually wasn’t THAT bad… no one was affected by my words or anything of the sort. I just feel like an idiot.
i.d.i.o.t.
UGH!

2) I ended up shopping this evening. yay shopping!
There’s a “new” bead store in my neighbourhood! While I was browsing the sales person was making earrings! I envied her.

3) Some guy on tv just said “je t’aime fort”.
I love it.

4) I’m going to watch one more dance, and then turn off the tv, turn on my iPod and pick up my sewing thread.
Imogen Heap’s new album was released today! yayy!

5) Apparently ear piercing is addictive.
hmm.
yesterday I went to my local Ardene to inquire about their piercing service. Apparently they don’t do cartilage piercings. boo.
I don’t really want to go back to a proper piercing place.
so that was the end of that idea.
And then today, while earring shopping, I decided to get a pair of their surgical steel earrings, which apparently come with a free piercing.
so I figured… why not?

It’s interesting the differences in their ‘After Care Instructions’ vs. those of the piercing/tattoo parlor.
In a nutshell, the Professionals told me:
- go buy non-iodized sea salt
- each morning and night, rinse the piercing in a 1:1 sea salt / water mixture
- leave the piercings in for 6-8 weeks

This place told me:
- leave the piercings in for 4-6 weeks
- rinse twice a day with an antiseptic solution that they gave me (When I inquired about sea salt the person told me, “yeah, sea salt is better to use than the stuff I just gave you.)
- don’t wiggle the earring

In the course of writing this entry I did a quick internet search for pictures of ear piercings and I came across some pictures showing infected ears. yikes. Now I don’t feel so good about my decision…. considering that I don’t really follow the care instructions properly. This could all go horribly, horribly wrong.

so many things…

August 23, 2009

so little time!

It’s September in a couple days.

of the four calendars at my desk at work - yes, four - two still display July. I’m not sure where August went.

September to me means that I *should* start getting KPD ready for Christmas, and I have to do some research and studying related to the future.
So I need to spend all my spare time focused on those two things.

Last night, after a day of hardcore logical thinking, I came home, watch Matlock for an hour, and promptly took a 3hour nap.
then I woke up, close my curtains (oops) and got ready for bed.
So I didn’t accomplish anything, but at least I was well rested!

It seems like a long time ago now, but Cecilia slept over on Thursday. Somehow we ended up at XOCOCAVA!
AND - I managed not to pick really flavours that I actually enjoy! exciting!

Pistachio and Milk Chocolate. yummy.

Here’s a pic of the wall that I really like:

I feel bad for the owners / whoever thought to have this painted on the wall.
It’s a good idea, but they just didn’t think it through.
#1 - It includes prices! so, in order to change prices, they have to re-paint the wall! yikes.
#2 - It limits (or extends, as the case may be) their menu! Our server mentioned to us that one of the sections listed on the wall is not actually offered anymore.

I feel like vinyl stickers would produce a similar-looking wall, and eliminate the permanency issues.

Here are some more pictures:

And Cecilia:

camera in-hand, of course!

My cat

August 21, 2009

My cat is sitting on my kitchen table.
It’s a fluffy white cat like this one:

(I’m not really a “fluffy white cat” kind of person.)

So we’re having a conversation. Yes, conversation.
The cat is responding to me.

… In english.

The conversation continues… and at some point the cat eats one of my canvases, and I’m pissed!!
He did it out of spite- for something..

Eventually I figure he must be hungry, so I get ready to go to my neighborhood grocery store to buy some food.
But what do you buy for a talking cat?
Cat food doesn’t seem appropriate… Maybe steak?

And right before I leave my apartment, I wake up.
—-

I don’t dream very often, so whenever I do I’m always intrigued.
A talking cat that I am upset with– what could that mean?

oh sleeping

August 19, 2009

Sometimes I wish that I didn’t have to sleep. Imagine all the extra hours that would be available if we only had to sleep like 2 hours per night!

And sometimes I wish that my second wind of in energy/productivity came a little sooner in the day.
Why does it always seem to happen after midnight?

It’s only Wednesday but so far this week has been very creatively inspirational and gratifying. it’s been fantastic.
Currently, a good portion of my floor space is covered in painted canvas - ready to be embroidered!

…hmph, some people are smoking weed outside my window. what a bummer.

anyways,
Manz and I went for some gourmet icecream last week! We went to XOCOCAVA after reading a good review in Now Magazine. (Though, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that we read the review and HAD to go there. We wanted to go for ice cream and this place just happened to be a the closest place to our starting point.)
Here’s a pic from inside the place:

A wall of broken plates! I loved it.
They also had a cool colour scheme - brown and orange! yummy!

Speaking of yummy - that’s my icecream in the picture.
The two flavours I chose were:
1) Dark Chocolate
2) Prune
… two things I don’t like.
I’m not sure why I chose them. I was trying to be adventurous. …it kinda backfired on me.

So after taking in the whole ‘experience’, we gave the restaurant ratings based on atmosphere/decor, quality of service and quality of food.
I didn’t write down the ratings though, so I can’t really remember them. But some of the comments were:
Atmosphere:
- there was no music playing (not really a pro or a con, just an observation)
- the place was small, but super clean!
- each ice cream container was individually covered, which was good.

Quality of Service:
- the person attending to us was pleasant and helpful
- and she gave us several free samples! (even without us asking for them!)

Quality of Food:
- I think it was good overall. I couldn’t really judge the food because I chose two flavours that I didn’t like. (who DOES that?!) But I think Manz liked her’s. … Though it was made without egg, which was different.

Also - did you know that ice cream is made with eggs? I had no idea!

on a different note - I feel like my ear and I are having an argument. It’s nothing big, just I’m mad at it, and it’s stubborn, or something of the sort.
It’s been 8 weeks since I had my cartilage pierced and minus a day where I took out the piercing and didn’t do the sea salt rinse, I’ve done everything correctly! So why isn’t it healed yet!??
The piercing people say I should continue doing the salt thing for a few more days, but I really just want to change the piercing and move on. And I would TOTALLY do it if the new earring was made of surgical steel, but it’s made of gold + copper, so I feel like I have to wait until my ear has healed properly. ugh. since when do I take a long time to heal?

songs please!
