yet another reason to get a dog!

September 1, 2008

Today has been a fun laid back sort of day.
So far I’ve just about made it through my list of to-do’s. The list includes:
- sleep in
- hang out at the park
- make a boatload of cards
- watch some daytime tv
- hang out at a coffee shop and read a book
- watch Matlock
- work on my afghan
- make some stencils for my Christmas cards

I still need to do the last 3 items.
I’m about to pop in my Matlock dvd right now! :D
haha.

so yes, I spent a few hours at the park.

I sat there and listened to music/ TED Talks and did some sewing. It was nice.
And even better when I stopped sitting in the direct sunlight!

It took me an hour to realize that I could simple sit two feet away and be much more comfortable! sheesh!

While sitting there, I came across this gem of a song by Nellie McKay.

I absolutely love it.
And now I’m (once again) tempted to get a dog.
it’s the perfect song to sing as you’re walking down the street!
I’m just walking my dog, singing my song, strolling along. Yeah it’s just me and my dog, catching some sun, we can’t go wrong!

I like the way she says ’sun’. :)
oh an aside: there’s something about the way she talks… i like it. I’m not sure what it is. it reminds me of senior citizens. like maybe she has dentures…. or those invisible braces…

oh, so here’s another Cup Of the Day!

Isn’t it great?!
It’s from an independent coffee shop that I go to.
When the coffee-lady (what should I call her? a Server? Barista?) gave it to me I thought, ‘hmm, this looks kind of odd…’
Then I realized it’s because it doesn’t have any advertising on it!
It reminds me of the I Am Not a Papercup Cup.
But it’s definitely made out of plastic and cardboard. …so it’s going to be retired to my recycling bin soon.

It came with this coffee sleeve:

so… I’ve been listening to The Dog Song on repeat since I started this post. … I can’t get enough of it. :)

thankfully, the song is on her cd, ‘Get Away From Me’! (That’s a spoof on Norah Jones’ “Come Away With Me”….)

mm coffeee…

cup of the day 2008

June 2, 2008

Remember when i used to do this?

Here’s today’s cup!
(as mentioned yesterday)

Starbucks mug!

…and just for fun, I’m drinking a Second Cup beverage in it.
to be specific: “strawberries and cream pink hot chocolate”

doesn’t that sound absolutely disgusting?!

what can i say… it was on sale :)

luckily though, it’s actually quite good! …and it’s fun that it’s pink. …well, “fun” in a “i’m ingesting pure chemicals” kinda way.

apples and a new cup

August 15, 2007

a new cup of the day!

it’s shiney and silver and huge and has my name on it!

my hand fits inside it! :D

[thanks Manz!]

here are the pics from yesterday:
I spent an hour outside picking apples.
the tree:

the loot:

they’re supposed to be red. i think they’re ‘Red Delicious’ apples. I picked the green ones though, b/c if i wait longer the bugs will eat them.

the forbidden branch:

there was a ‘perfect’ bunch of apples on this branch. Unfortunately, i’m not 9ft tall.
I had a funny time trying to get the apples though. If any of the neighbours were watching me, i’m sure they had a good laugh.
I used an extension cord to try and lasso the branch. …then i realized i’m seriously lacking in the ‘lasso-ing’ skills department.
I also brought out a kitchen chair and stood on that.
It was all to no avail though. The apples will remain on the branch for the birds and bugs to eat.

washing:

one of the final products:

Apple Crisp.
hah, it doesn’t look very appetizing…but it is tasty.

elephants!!

April 30, 2007

today’s Cup of the Day is ORANGE! yay!!

a couple weeks ago, i found my old stash of embroidery floss (from back when i used to make bracelets) and i figured i should do something with it!

string

+

cardstock

=

ELEPHANT CARDS!! :D

actually, they’re not cards yet…. i’ll have to glue them onto cards.
but i like them a lot. mostly cuz they’re elephants…and they take me forever to finish :)

western!

April 29, 2007

i like Western.

today’s cup:

i like this cup. it always makes me laugh.
it’s a ‘UWO Residence Life’ cup and it lists all the residences at Western.
(except the two newest ones)

it makes me laugh though, b/c it was given to me as a ‘thank you’ gift after i did a presentation at a residence during my first job with the uni.
what’s funny though, is that i worked under the same department as the residence people, and the presentation was part of my job responsibilities, so it was like i was getting a present from my own department for doing my job.

i’m excitied about tomorrow’s cup! it’s new and its orange!

“you’re the swimming pool on an August day”

April 28, 2007

i like that Michael Buble song: “Everything” it’s cute.
it’s you, it’s you, you make me sing.
you’re every line, you’re every word, you’re everything.

oddly enough, that song reminds me of Dollarama. :D
i think it’s cuz the first time i sang along to the song was when i was walking around that store.
i wasn’t a fan of his. …but that’ll probably change, cuz i don’t really have a valid excuse.

speaking of music, last week when i was at Chapters i saw Carla Bruni’s album “Quelqu’un M’a Dit” up by the cash registers!
i was shocked!
i was tempted to make an impulse buy, but it was $18. and that’s just too much.
so i was confused. why was Chapters selling this 2-year old french cd all of a sudden?!

today, i found out why.
Bruni released an english cd in February!!

it’s pretty cool, if i do say so myself.
superficially, the cd case/jacket is nice. …pretty pictures and i like the feel of the paper. :D
more substantially, the music is really good!! bruni still has her calm ‘airy’ voice, and the songs are all from poems by random people like Emily Dickinson, William Butler Yeats and Dorothy Parker.
and along with the lyrics, the cd booklet has mini bios of all the artists. so that’s fun too.

so anyways i laid off the card-making for the past couple days.
instead, i found Freezer paper (MAN that stuff is hard to track down!) and used it to make tissue paper envelopes! here are yesterday’s fun ones:

and today i wanted to see what would happen if i used wrapping paper… it didn’t really work as well…

today’s cup was a gift from mandy!! inspired by my “someone should invent see-through mugs” comment a couple years ago.
i really like it. it’s HUGE! and huge cups are more fun. :)

plus i enjoy drinking coffee products in it that AREN’T from Starbucks.

so i was thinking, how cool would it be to have a set of mismatching dishes!
i mean like when moving into a new house or something, instead of buying a 16-piece set, buy different pieces from different sources.
maybe over the span of a few months, only buying a max of 2 matching pieces…
then any meal, or dinner party will be more fun cuz you can choose what dish you want, and each one would hold a specific memory…
maybe i’ll do that when i eventually move out. :D

Cup of the Day

April 25, 2007

Today’s Cup Of The Day is my big ChryFi mug:

so, i’m sure some of you aren’t familiar with this Cup of the Day thing.
haha, that might be because i just made it up. :D
well, over the past couple years i noticed that whenever i’m living at home (like, instead of at school) i use up a WHOLE lot of cups/glasses/mugs every day.
like one for every drink of water, juice, coffee whatever.
i guess it was easy for me to do that b/c i would put them in the dishwasher, so it wasn’t like i saw them all together in the sink.
but these days i tend to be handwashing things more, so i decided that i’m cutting down to one cup a day. (ideally)
and it’s fun!
…you know, in the morning deciding which cup i’ll be using.

so every day, until i use up my Cool Cups Collection, i’ll be posting pics of the cup i choose.

…actually, i’m just joking. but who knows, if i spend all day doing nothing of interest, i might have to take pics of mugs.
…i must say though, i do have some fun ones.

but anyways.
I WENT TO WESTERN YESTERDAY!!!
it was very exciting.
monday night, Van and i were trying to decide what ‘exciting thing’ to do on Tuesday.
toronto? port credit? niagara?
“is there anything in Oshawa?”
“i don’t think so.”
we landed in London. and it was a fun daytrip!
uni is as pretty as i remember it!

in card/stationary-making news, i made some 7-dot flower cards yesterday.
i’ve got to say, i like them a lot more than the 6dot flowers i was doing before:

and today’s stuff was more ‘line’ related:

…i need to stop…
