Happy Friday Friends!

Here’s something fun:
KPD was mentioned on the Hand Embroidery Network blog!
(I LOVE them!)

Enjoy the weekend!

what I’ve been up to…

July 14, 2009

greetings!
alright, so I feel like I’ve been a little m.i.a from this blog… I think maybe I’ve just been having more “I should write about this” thoughts than usual

anyways,
I spent this past weekend tinkering with KiwiPunchDesigns’ website!

ch..ch…check it out!
www.KiwiPunchDesigns.com

the previous version was like this.

let me know what you think!

I feel like it’s closer to my ‘ideal’ website. But I dunno about the ad(s) on it.
There’s an option to upgrade to a paid non-ad version, but I don’t really want to do that.
I dunno if it looks really cheap to have a ‘this is a free website’ ad on the page….
oh, and I think it might be super slow…. hmm.

my to-do list for the site includes resizing some pictures since some of them got oddly cropped.

anyways,
A friend of mine does this thing where when she’s shopping or ordering take-out or reserving something, she uses a fake name.
I love this idea!
Even though I love my name (thanks parents!) I also love the idea of having a different random name, if even for only a few minutes.
The first name I wanted to try out was ‘Anastasia’. (fun!)
Though, for the past month or so, whenever I had the opportunity to use it, I was caught off-guard, and couldn’t remember it - all I could remember was “Afghanistan”! (Long word that starts with ‘A’…)
So after an awkward pause, as if I forgot my own name, I would say ‘Catherine’.

well, last week I went to Old Navy and was prepared!
(For those who don’t know, Old Navy has this annoying habit of writing your name on the change room door when you go to try on clothes….WHY do they do that? ugh.)

so this time, I had my fake name picked out:

I could be a ‘Roxanne’ eh?

So as soon as I told the girl she was like “oh! I love that name! When I used to play with my sister I used to choose that name!” (or something like that)
And then I felt bad for lying (lying?) to her about my name.

I didn’t really consider the whole deception aspect. bummer.
I guess I’ll have to really listen to people’s questions.
If they ask me for my name, I’ll say “Catherine”. If they ask me for ‘a name’ or ‘the name’, then I’ll say Roxanne or Anastasia. or Denise. or Ester…. Veronica? …Betty? haha

sing it Sting.

well, TMZ is on tv. which means that it’s way past my bedtime.

until next time…

SNRU Time!

March 1, 2009

I’m excited.. (maybe I’m the only one.)
It’s Sunday Night Round Up time!!
(…oo, maybe I’ll make a new category for these posts..)

- I can’t remember when I came across this site, but I recently discovered that it’s fun! …and full of useful info!
www.ThistoThat.com It’s for glue advice! Just type in what materials you want to stick together and the site gives you some options/advice!

- I’m not a stuffed animal type of person, but these creations from Viola Studio are adorable!

- An interesting article by Harvard Business about how Tropicana could have avoided its re-branding mishap.

- Sometime last week I mentioned the word ‘kwot’ (ie, “quote”)
well…I made something!

more info/pics here

- these Swimmers Glasses are so fun!

And finally,
I l.o.v.e this idea:

scrabble cushions!!

I’m sore.

January 26, 2009

So I spent a good portion of the day today preparing boxes to be shipped to my next workshop location.
it was great. I love shipping boxes. (deep deep sarcasm)

I guess the boxes were too heavy, or I was too much in a rush or something cause I am SO sore right now.
I was laughing at myself when tried to get up off the couch.
hah, I’m getting old.

speaking of which - what should I do for my 25th birthday?

I’m not a big ‘birthday celebration’ person, so I won’t have a party, but I want to do something to commemorate my oldness.

When my sis turned 25 she jumped out of a plane - which I think is HILARIOUS!! I wouldn’t do it of course, but I do think it’s great.

A quick google search provided me with this list of 10 things to do before you turn 30:
1. Drive a wickedly cool car, even if you have to rent it.
2. Date against type
3. See the world
4. Live in a cool place
5. If you’re going to drink a lot, do it when you’re young.
6. Take risks with your job
7. Do something physically adventurous
8. Take your parents to dinner
9. Do volunteer work
10. Use this decade to go to extremes.

I do like the idea of driving across Canada… that’d be fun!
I wonder how long that would take… And how much it would cost…

In unrelated news…
this was my weekend:

I love braille!

oh subway… what am I going to do with you?

December 3, 2008

Sometimes I just get so annoyed at the subway system….
Today wasn’t too bad…. it only took 40minutes extra to get home.

We were stuck in a PACKED subway (you know, when everyone is so packed in that no one needs to hold on to anything cause there’s no room to fall…)
Actually, the whole thing reminded me of this Seinfeld scene:

Anyways,
here are the two splatter paintings I made 2 weekends ago:

splattering paint is so much fun!!

They’re for my dad’s office!

oh, and I believe I very vaguely mentioned this sign I made:

I probably love it more than I should… (hmm, saying that reminds me of the line from Joshua Radin’s song “The fear you won’t fall” lyric: ‘I miss you more than I should, than I thought I could. Can’t get my mind off of you.’
mmm love that song.

Also, I especially enjoy the wonkyness of the kiwi and the letters. :)

So Canadian politics are CRAZY these days!! I’ve never been so fascinated with the goings-on in Ottawa!
A coalition government supported by the separatists! …and a leadership race happening right in the middle of it all?!! CRAZZZZY!

superman never made any money

September 28, 2008

here’s the ‘wood on the wall’ thing I was talking about:

acrylic paint and cotton embroidery thread on canvas.

The more I look at it, the more I like it.

But, I think I like the backside the best:

So, it’s not exactly what I pictured in my mind, so I’m going to try it out again and see what happens….

I dedicated this weekend to card-making and afghan-making if I could fit it in (which I couldn’t).
I took a few pics of my finished cards…
here’s one from today:

hehe I like this one.

And I finished a Christmas card order that I was working on for the past week and a bit:

(more pics here.)

And an order from last week:

bees!!
haha they make me smile when they’re all together.

I’m justa walkin my dog

September 21, 2008

yup - I still love that song.

:)

This weekend was fun!

I was a vendor at the Ladyfest craft market on Saturday. My table was outside, so that was nice. Even if the wind kept threatening to blow down my display…
(thankfully, my mom was more level-headed about the whole thing, and decided that we should figure out a way to secure the display to the table, instead of taking the entire thing and melodramatically throwing the thing into the street — which was what I was going to do.)

so, this isn’t really the place for me to do this, but I’m really excited about it, so I must share:
A new KPD Card:

front:

inside:

ehehehe. This card cracks me up.
(ps - it’s inspired by Facebook.)

anyways, the craft show was at a church across from a fire station.

My mom and I were somewhat mesmerized by the skill by which the Fire Truck drivers backed the trucks into the station’s garage.
they did it so quickly! and with no corrections! (ie, driving forward and straightening out…)
It was very impressive.
I’m doubtful that I would even be able to back up a regular-sized car into their garage in one go….

so you may not have noticed in the picture above:

BBQ on the roof!!

Also nearby was this house:

a little closer…

MOOSE on the roof!!

…how odd…
