what I learned today

September 15, 2009

a hippo is not a pig.

I didn’t think it was.
…until someone at work told me it was.

and now, after a repeating the information to 5 people, I now discover, apparently I’m gullible.

I feel bad for the first person who told me. She was so proud of the information!
But I suppose I should tell her, so she doesn’t continue to tell other people….

6 things

August 13, 2009

1. This morning, soon after I boarded the subway train, and we started moving, the subway conductor came on the PA system and said the following:
“Good Morning.”
It was fabulously random.

2. I need to start making a list of the things that I want to be called during my lifetime.
So far, the list includes: Conductor, Notarian, Her Excellency.

3. Did you know that there’s such a thing as yellow watermelon?
I saw it for the first time at a farmer’s market today.

Doesn’t it look fantastic!??
Unfortunately, it still tastes like regular watermelon… :(

4. While I was in Mississauga last weekend I visited a restaurant called Sprouts. It’s an independent salad/wrap/sandwich-type restaurant. They have a location on Financial Drive, and another down by Erin Mills.
They also have cool art on the wall by Jacqueline Poirer.

5. I just learned this: There’s a company in Oakville called Vandelay Enterprises.
They should definitely make mention of Vandelay Industries on their website…

6. The Nuit Blanche event is coming up in a couple months.

love their tagline! “a free all-night contemporary art thing”.

all love

June 2, 2009

hmm. I’m been a bit absent lately.
I’m not sure what the deal is. I’m kinda busy, but not crazy busy.

I think I’m just not managing my time well. That, and I’m really tired.
Can’t seem to get to bed early though. (case and point: It’s 11:30pm right now.)

anyways, check out my new Pod case:

(more info & pics here)

and here’s something unrelated:

I like this song a lot. (”All love” by Ingrid Michaelson)

until next time, keep fit and have fun!

everything will be okay

May 25, 2009

I finally got around to buying the Scrubs ‘My Musical’ album off iTunes. (hah! I’m such a fan.)

One of my coworkers told me about Meetup today.
I feel like discovered a secret hidden city!

As far as I can tell, it’s a site where people that facilitates the ‘meeting up’ of people with similar interests. my coworker went to a meeting this weekend for people who like to do collage. It was held in a ‘green’ coffee shop in the east end of the city.
how random!

….I’m SO intrigued!!

I want to go to one!
though, I’m not sure how I feel about meeting some random people who I don’t know…
on that note, anyone want to come with me? :)

anyways,
here are two logos I like!

(does Walmart’s new logo remind anyone else of pharmaceuticals?)

I can’t remember where I saw this, but I like it!

cute!

two things

May 4, 2009

1. Isn’t this kid cute?

[link]

2. I was sitting in the park, across the street from a veterinary clinic and I thought, “where did the word ‘veterinary’ come from”?
Here’s the answer!
(courtesy of the Word Detective)
“…veterinary medicine originally focused primarily on work animals, such as horses, and livestock, primarily cattle… the term “veterinarian” is quite logically derived from the Latin word “veterinae,” meaning “cattle.”

so there you go! :)

Benylin shall save the day

March 13, 2009

..right?

My cough got worse today so I decided to buy some medicine. This may have been my first time buying cough medicine for myself! I decided to go for Benylin cause it said “Extra-strength” AND “Fast Acting” on the box.

I would’ve gone for Buckley’s but I couldn’t find it.
bummer. I like their commercials.

unrelated:
look how CUTE this commercial is!

When I was walking to the pharmacy some guys behind me used the term “walkie-talkie” and I realized that that is a hilarious word!!
Random knowledge: According to Wikipedia, the walkie-talkie was developed by a Canadian.

More random knowledge I gained today:
Apparently when a T.O police officer is suspended with pay, they have to sign-in to the police headquarters twice a day. (unless they get special permission not to.)
So in the case of one recently suspended officer, he still goes to “work” every morning, signs in, and then hangs out with his co-worker friends.

Anyways,
Guess what Canadian celebrity I saw today:

Yup! George Stroumboulopoulos.
In-person, he looks exactly like how he looks on tv.

January 22, 2009

This morning I learned that when staying at hotels, you should always keep your keycard, cause your credit card info and personal information is stored on it.

…someone told this to me.

and when searching on the net for some more info, I found this.
IT’S A HOAX!
Snopes.com to the rescue!

seems kinda silly actually….

in other news… someone was shot on the subway platform this morning!!
WHAT!!!!
that’s scary!
Subway platforms are cramped (sometimes crammed with people) and there’s no where to go!
*shudder*

here’s something interesting:
- Voice Knitting Machine: I want my voice on a sweater!
