I’m getting a scooter!!!

October 5, 2009

SO exciting!
okay, well actually, I’m not getting an actually ’scooter’, but rather an e-bike!
I just heard about them on the news today! They’re now legal and available for ‘the rest of us’!! yay!!
the only rule is that you have to wear a helmet!

I imagine they’ll be popping up around Toronto very soon. …There’s no licensing involved, and you just plug the battery into the wall to recharge it. It costs about $25/year!!!!

And… they look like this:

The only most noticeable difference between an e-bike and a scooter is that an e-bike has bicycle petals on it. Otherwise, I say it looks totally like a scooter!
I’m so excited!
They only go up to 35km/hr, but still - I think buzzing around the city in one of these would be lots of fun. I want to rent one asap for a weekend adventure.
that said - I’m not planning on getting the e-bike until sometime next year. Maybe I’ll buy it for my birthday! fun!

speaking of next year,
I’m currently meeting all of my goals for 2009!!!
a) more limes in my life - check! Whenever there’s a lime opportunity, I take it… plus my bathroom cleaner smells like limes. …as does my handsoap. yummy.
b) I am making my own meals!! It’s fantastic! …and disgusting!
ugh. so much effort, such poor results.
Tonight I decided to make broccoli & cheese soup. It turned out to be not very thick, so I blended it using my blender! I remember seeing someone do that on a tv show once. Their soup turned out thick and yummy looking.
mine looks horrible.
but since I spent so much time making it, I now have no energy to make something else.

Friday Friday!

more on Windsor

September 30, 2009

here are a few more pictures from my wanderings in Windsor:

A house with a well:

Modified bikes for sale:

I’m a fan of this bus stop. No shelter needed. No bench. Just one lonesone seat.

Old School CBC building:

I was drawn to this building for some reason… it reminds me of the ’80s.

The time on my iPod is off.

#3. A book I bought: “Little Bee

I bought it solely because of how pretty it is. That, and what the inside sleeve says:

#4. Yesterday’s Google Doodle!

isn’t it great?! I think it’s my favourite one. It was in celebration of their 11th anniversary.

Fun times in Windsor, ON

September 28, 2009

So I was in Windsor this weekend!
I wasn’t really looking forward to this trip – it was going to cost me a lot of money, and I mean, it’s Windsor!
But when I was complaining about the trip, my mom suggested that I should think of it as a sort of ‘getaway’. So that helped changed me mindset.
And the trip turned out to be pretty good!

My main reason for going there was to take a test on Saturday morning. Around 1:30pm the test was over and I decided to walk around for a bit. Little did I know that the University of Windsor campus is a 2minute walk away from the river separating Canada & the US!
WATERFRONT!!!!

It was exciting.

That’s a massive GM building on the right.

So I decided to stroll along the waterfront and make my way back to my hotel.
There were lots of sponsored park benches. I took pictures of two:

I wasn’t walking for long before I realized that this wasn’t your normal waterfront… There were fun/cute/odd/abstract sculptures all over the place!!!

Later on, I found this sign:

(psst – I like how the word ‘odette’ is 3D)

I didn’t take pictures of all the sculptures I came across, but here are a few:

Running horses:

Very cool

Penguins:

Cute!

Man on horse:

Random

Zombies:

Just joking. This piece was called “Flying Men”, and it freaked me out.

ELEPHANTS!

I love love love this one. It included a life-size elephant (pictured), and two baby elephants behind.

A hand holding an apple:

A sculpture of a woman trying to shoo a bird from off her head:

I dunno how they did it, but somehow there whenever I passed by, there was always a seagull sitting on this!

Towers:

I ended up going back to the waterfront as the sun was setting.

Suffice to say, Windsor has moved up quite a few points in my book.

what I’m doing right now…

sitting in a hotel watching a “Say Yes to the Dress“. I think I’ve seen 4 episodes so far. It might be more. They’re just blending into each other…

my right ear doesn’t like earrings

September 22, 2009

So I went to an Urgent Care Centre tonight.

nothing serious though.
thankfully.

It was my first trip to an Urgent Care Centre. It was like an Emergency Room without the emergency.
Interesting experience. I was in-and-out in an hour. not bad!

so here’s the story:
my right ear felt kinda sore when I woke up this morning. Before I did my morning ’salt water wash’, I examined the ear and determined that the backing of one of the earrings had been “sucked up” into my ear lobe. yuck!!
(The same kinda thing happened to a friend of mine a few years ago, so while I was shocked and appalled when she told me about it back then, now when it’s happening to me, it didn’t seem so outrageous.)

I fiddled with it during the day, but to no avail.
So this evening I headed to the UCC and had a doctor take it out for me!
Turns out that it had already started to show signs of infection!
The doctor recommended that I let it heal completely instead of putting another earring in the hole.

As I was walking home I realized that because of my silly piercing fast, I have to wait until 2010 to get the ear re-pierced!
I also realized that in three months I’ve gone from zero earrings up to three, down to two, up to four, up to six, and now down to five.

to-do list

- eat dinner (Swiss Chalet left overs!! yay!)
- finish listening to the latest This American Life podcast
- drop off a package at the post office
- go to the closest Urgent Care Centre
- come back home and depending on the time: a) sleep, b) work on cards, c) study
